Design writer Jason Sheftell tragically dies at 46

Jason Sheftell, a beloved reporter who covered design and real estate for the Daily News, tragically was found dead Monday in his Manhattan apartment. According to the Daily News' report, police have not yet determined the cause of death.

Sheftell was a fixture at design events, covering everything from designer showhouses to edgy design shows and designer house tours. He was extremely well-liked and highly-regarded among friends and colleagues, and was known for his enthusiastic and friendly nature.

Born in Brooklyn, he studied European History at the University of Pennsylvania and when he moved back to New York City he landed his first writing gig at Cigar Aficionado magazine.

His late father, Fred, was a noted psychiatrist and musician who raised his family in Stamford, Conn. His mother, Karen, was a real estate broker in Connecticut.

He is survived by his mother and sister, Lauren, who lives in Los Angeles.
