The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) has just announced the finalists for this year's awards, known as the Ellies—for the Alexander Calder stabile “Elephant” given to each award winner. Finalists include 52 titles in 20 categories, selected by a team of 345 editors, art and photography directors and journalism educators.

Design magazines Real Simple earned three awards, Garden & Gun, two, House Beautiful, one, and Country Living earned its first nomination.

Finalists in the Magazine of the Year category, honoring excellence both in print and on digital platforms, will be announced on Thursday, April 5; the Magazine of the Year finalists will also be honored at the May 3 awards presentation at the New York Marriott Marquis. Finalists and winners in the 11 National Magazine Awards for Digital Media categories were announced earlier this year. Nearly 270 publications entered the National Magazine Awards this year, submitting 1,804 entries. The judges included 345 magazine editors, art directors and photography editors as well as journalism educators.
