D&D Building’s annual spring market expands to two days

Now its 50th year, the Decoration & Design Building will present a jam-packed, two-day Spring Market featuring five compelling keynotes and more than 30 showroom programs and receptions.

Kicking off the 1 p.m. “British Invasion” keynote on May 13, New York Cottages & Gardens and Lapicida will host a discussion on the UK’s influence on design with Rachel Laxer, Phillip Gorrivan and Dionne Trifiro, with NYC&G’s CEO and Publication Director, Marianne Howatson, moderating. At 4:00 p.m., spend “An Afternoon with Martyn Lawrence Bullard,” who has earned his spot among Architectural Digest’s top 100 interior designers, as he discusses Benjamin Moore hues.

May 14’s schedule starts off with the keynote “Women in Business” at 10 a.m., with interior designers Mary McDonald and Celerie Kemble and fashion designer Lisa Perry Van sharing their stories of success, as well as how to build a brand, design a press strategy and interact with clients. At 1 p.m. on May 14, Editor in Chief of Coastal Living Steele Marcoux sits down with designers Anthony Baratta and Meg Braff to chat about new ways to include color in design in the keynote, “Mastering the Art of Color,” which will follow with a Q&A. The final keynote, held at 4 p.m., will explore the design work, inspiration and recent Lee Jofa collection of Atlanta-based designer Suzanne Kasler.

Join GoDesignGo editor Haley Williams at 3 p.m. on May 14 as she moderates a panel discussion on important designer "firsts" with up-and-coming designers Ashley Darryl, Mercedes Desio and Joshua Smith.

“From a Venetian Silk Thread,” presented by Donghia’s Andrea Favaretto Rubelli, who will introduce attendees to a lush collection of installations that all feature Venetian silk.

“Illuminating your Interiors in the Midst of the Lighting Revolution,” with award-winning interior designer and lighting expert Charles Pavarini III, will explore using lighting as a design tool.

“It Is All in the Details” will introduce guests to new drapery inspiration via European textiles and innovative outcomes as well as the nitty-gritty of budgeting and measuring fabrics.

“From Fashion to Floors: A Match Made in Brooklyn” delves into the development of “Colors,” rug designer Barbara Barran’s collection with Brooklyn scarf designer Susan Steinbrock.

“The Internet of Design: How Technology Is Changing the Design Landscape” discovers the intersection of technology and design, with panelists including architect and interior designer Campion Platt, Chairish Founder and Chief Curator Anna Brockway and Jenn-Air Marketing Director Brian Maynard.

An exciting array of open-house events are also on the docket for countless companies and brands including Baccarat, Cowtan & Tout, Warp & Weft, Maya Romanoff, Hokanson, Knoll Studio and more, with some offering newly premiered collections, such as J. Robert Scott’s new neutral luxury linen collection, “The Naturals,” and Thibaut’s new line of Portico indoor/outdoor Sunbrella fabrics.

Notable product premieres include Robert Lighton’s solid teak Cassette Armchair, David Sutherland Inc.’s Lakeshore fabric collection and Garden Décor garden accessory collection, and Dakota Jackson Inc.’s Camino Dining Table, designed with quilted makore, black mother-of-pearl inlays and a high-relief pedestal.
