Recognizing excellence in all areas of design enterprise, online design magazine Core77 today announced the first-ever Core77 Design Awards. Celebrating the richness of the design profession and its practitioners, the awards cover a range of categories including Furniture and Lighting; Interiors and Exhibition; Speculative Objects and Concepts; and Never Saw the Light of Day.

Design leaders around the world will judge 15 categories of entries, all of which will be published on Core77. Judges include Max Fraser,  Editor & Publisher of London Design Guide; Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein, Co-Directors of Klein Dytham architecture (KDa); Branko Lukic, Founding Partner of NONOBJECT; and Aric Chen, Design journalist and Creative Director of Beijing Design Week.

"After 16 years of serving the global design community every day, we are proud to launch an annual celebration of their best creative work," said a representative. "Core77 has endeavored to address many of the challenges of the design award paradigm, and built upon the very things that can make it great—leveraging online scale, increasing transparency, and decreasing plane fuel in the process."

The winners will be announced via livestream broadcast to create a rolling and continuous feed of the results over a period of several days. Video will enable the jury to share not only the results of their deliberation but also give insight into the reasoning and methodology behind their decisions.

To further enhance the story-telling process, video submissions from entrants will reveal the "real story" behind their designs and make these awards more poignant and personal.
