Comings & Goings: Design professionals on the move

Gracious Home has named Ashley Fothergill as its president, reporting to Joel Kier, the company’s chairman. He is succeeding Jordan Smilowitz, who left in April to become senior director of purchasing for Lapine, a retail merchandise agency. Before joining Gracious Home, Fothergill was vice president of Ralph Lauren responsible for its home collection, which included the designer brand’s lighting, giftware, textiles, home fragrance, decorative accessories, stationery, paint and window hardware products. He also served as director of product development at Williams-Sonoma, director of product development at British retailer Sainsbury and an executive in the Macy’s merchandising group.

Gilt has promoted Keith George to the role of SVP, Men’s and Home, effective immediately.  He was previously General Manager of Gilt’s Men’s business. He is replacing Jason Goldberger who left in February, and will report directly to Michelle Peluso, CEO. In his new position, Mr. George will be responsible for driving revenue and innovation through a cross-functional team of merchandising, marketing, technology, operations, and creative professionals.

Restoration Hardware has named Richard Harvey, former president of the Williams-Sonoma brand, as chief merchandising officer for its soon-to-launch RH Kitchen and Tableware, overseeing the development of kitchen furniture, appliances, lighting, cookware, tools and food—slated to launch in late 2014.

Amy Whittle, former Director of Events and Public Relations for Cottages & Gardens Publications, is now in public relations at Lands' End.

Furniture Brands International appointed Kathy Veltri to the position of President, Thomasville Furniture. Veltri will be responsible for all facets of the Thomasville brand, including company owned Thomasville stores. Veltri most recently was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Arhaus Furniture where she held positions with increasing levels of responsibility that included P&L accountability, marketing and brand management and store operations. She replaces Ed Teplitz, former president of Thomasville, who will be leaving the company on June 14.

Also at Furniture Brands International, Meredith Graham has been promoted to Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Furniture Brands.  This newly created position gives  Graham accountability for all legal and human resources functions for the company. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Furniture Brands.

Elizabeth Effertz has been promoted to Vice President, Information Technology at Furniture Brands International. She is now responsible for all I.T. functions for the company. She joined the company in 2011 as the Enterprise Project Management Director and Information Technology Lead for Lane Furniture. Prior to joining Furniture Brands, she served in a variety of information technology roles with increasing responsibilities at Monsanto.

Teresa Buelin has been promoted to vice president, sales and marketing for Lane Venture, and will oversee the brand’s territory managers. For the last three years, Buelin served as Lane Venture’s sales and marketing manager, providing strong leadership to the sales force and overseeing all marketing efforts for the brand. She joined Lane Venture in 1989 and has been served in various roles of increasing responsibility in customer service, marketing and sales.  She will continue to report to Gary McCray, president of Lane Venture.

Daniela Coletta has left her position as Managing Director of B&B Italia USA in order to spend more time with her family. Her replacement has not yet been named.

Michael Karyo has joined flatware maker Hampton Forge as chief operating officer, overseeing sales, marketing, and product development, reporting to Felix Amar, president and CEO. Karyo has more than 23 years of housewares management and product development experience at companies including Catamount Glass, SiliconeZone, and Casabella.

Sustainable textile company Bella-Dura has appointed Susan Lobel as New VP of Marketing & Brand Development. Beginning her career as a window stylist and design editor, Susan moved on to become Promotion Manager for Architectural Digest, then Director of Marketing for Interior Design magazine. For the past eight years she has been a consultant to high-profile design clients, including most recently, the luxury carpet manufacturer Tai Ping.

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) inducted Felice Silverman, IIDA, as IIDA President for the 2013-2014 term.  Silverman has been a practicing Interior Designer for more than 20 years and serves as both president and principal at Silverman Trykowski Associates Inc. in Boston. An educator and an active volunteer in the Interior Design community, Silverman serves on the IIDA Finance Committee and the Perspective Editorial Advisory Board, held a two-year term as the Chair of the IIDA Foundation Board of Trustees, and is a Past President of the IIDA New England Chapter. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Boston Architectural College and currently serves as its overseer. She is currently adjunct faculty at the BAC and in the past has served as Chair of the BAC’s Interior Design Advisory Board, as well as Co-Chair of the Student Affairs Committee.

The New School has announced the appointment of Susan Taylor-Leduc, an art historian based in Paris, as the dean of Parsons Paris. Taylor-Leduc will oversee academics at Parsons Paris, which range from undergraduate and graduate education to study abroad opportunities, and build connections with a range of cultural, business, government and academic partners across Europe. Since 1994, she has taught international and American students in Paris, most recently serving as academic director and associate professor of Art History at Trinity College in Paris, which she co-founded in 2006. She has served as a visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques in Paris, and Columbia University’s Global Center in Paris.
