Finnish furniture and design company Artek has entered the American design market with a new showroom at 199 Lafayette in New York. In addition to New York, Artek has opened a showroom in Stockholm.

The opening coincides with the 75th anniversary of the company, and is intended to introduce the "ideology of a new era of design" at the same time honoring the traditions upon which Artek was built. The company was founded in 1935 by Alvar and Aino Aalto. Today, it is renowned as one of the most innovative contributors to modern design.

Artek has well-known clients, such as Apple, the multinational designer and manufacturer of consumer electronics and software.

The furniture company is currently owned by Swedish capital investor Proventus.
