Interior designers and builders ultimately work toward the same goal—but too often they’re speaking entirely different languages. This class pulls back the curtain on why that disconnect happens; how it quietly costs everyone time, money and trust; and what designers can do to become indispensable collaborators rather than after-the-fact decorators.

Drawing on more than two decades of hands-on experience as a licensed builder, land developer and interior designer, Rachel Brown breaks down what builders actually prioritize—budgets, schedules, sequencing, liability and clarity—and how designers can align their process without sacrificing creativity or authority. This isn’t a question of simply “playing nice”: It’s about understanding when to lead, when to adapt, and how to earn a seat at the table early in the process.

Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of builder psychology; frameworks for practical communication; and greater confidence navigating jobsites, builder meetings, and collaborative roles that lead to better projects—and better business.

In this workshop, attendees will learn:
- How builders think, decide and prioritize—and why designers often lose leverage without realizing it
- The most common friction points between builders and designers (and how to neutralize them early)
- How to speak “fluent builder” when it comes to budgets, timelines and decision sequencing
- Where designers can lead with authority—and where collaboration creates better outcomes for everyone

After this workshop, attendees will have:
- A clearer framework for working with builders instead of around them
- Practical language and talking points for builder meetings, jobsites and emails
- A stronger understanding of when to push, when to pause, and when to reframe decisions
- Increased confidence positioning yourself as a strategic partner—not a finishing touch

Additional Information:
This workshop is conducted through Zoom webinar. All you need to join is reliable internet access and computer speakers with good volume.
