On June 29, J. Pocker toasted a rare milestone: 100 years in business. To celebrate, the bespoke frame and print house welcomed about 50 cherished clients, designers and friends to its flagship showroom on Third Avenue at 62nd Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side—a fitting home for the brand’s next chapter.
Founded in 1926, J. Pocker has been framing the city’s taste for a century. Its client list reads like a who’s who of luminaries: famed fashion editor Diana Vreeland, golden-age actors Lauren Bacall and Paul Newman, legendary late night host Johnny Carson, industry titans the Rockefellers, even the then Prince of Wales. More important, nearly every interior designer working in New York has framed with Pocker, a true tentpole of the industry.
The evening was hosted by Eric Mauskopf, who took the helm of the company in 2017, and Robyn Pocker, whose grandfather founded it and whose own instincts carried it into a new era. They traveled from Jerusalem for the occasion. Under Mauskopf, J. Pocker has grown to five showrooms across New York and Connecticut while maintaining the hands-on craftsmanship that defines the brand. Also in attendance was Hildy Ng-Strasser, longtime director of design and operations and head of staff, along with fellow team members Richard Cavataro, Karen Colosa, Terry Green, Gayla Martin, James McDonough, Kimberly Vargas and Leba Wise.
They were joined by a wider circle of J. Pocker’s steadfast clients, friends and family, including Ellie Cullman and Sarah Ramsey of Cullman & Kravis Associates; Harry Heissmann; Young Huh and Alexa Hampton and their teams; designer Carl Lana and his partner, artist Nathaniel Aric Galka; interiors photographer Rayon Richards; industry veterans Jill Esterman and Carolyn Sollis; interiors editor and stylist Carolyn Englefield; and Alix Lerman, chief marketing officer of the New York Design Center. Guests sampled an assortment of savory and sweet bites, and raised a signature cocktail to toast J. Pocker’s next hundred years.
