BOH x The Shade Store designer panel

On June 22, local designers gathered at The Shade Store’s new showroom in Edina, Minnesota, located within the Shoppes at Estelle, for a morning filled with great design and lively conversation. Business of Home editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen hosted a panel discussion with local designers Julia Miller of Yond Interiors, Victoria Sass of Prospect Refuge Studio and Tiffany Weiss, principal at her namesake firm, in a conversation that brought the 50 States Project to life and dove deep into how each designer manages her company and defines success today.

Attendees enjoyed light bites while they browsed the new showroom, which featured product displays showcasing all the window treatment styles offered by The Shade Store as well as more than 1,3o0 materials.

“Victoria, Tiffany and Julia weren’t afraid to get candid about the trials and tribulations of running their businesses, which set the tone for a lively, helpful discussion about what it takes to nurture and grow a design business,” said Petersen. “Questions from the audience about how to turn around a problem project, set boundaries with clients and find a good business coach highlighted the candor and sense of sharing that filled the entire morning.

“It’s extraordinary to have a partner like The Shade Store that shares BOH’s commitment to fostering connections and community and has truly built its business around offering support and quality service to the trade,” she continued.

“Thanks to BOH and The Shade Store for facilitating such a wonderful event where we could share our experiences and hear from the design community about design and entrepreneurship,” said Miller. “I connected with so many attendees after the event and look forward to developing friendships with so many local designers.”

BOH provided such a fun opportunity to meet other local designers and share key business practices that are helpful no matter what stage a business is in,” said Weiss.

Business of Home and Kaitlin Petersen do such a lovely job of creating meaningful events for designers and design business owners,” said Sass. “It was a joy to connect with our local design community at The Shade Store and share our experiences on everything from contracts to finding your unique voice with the next generation of designers. Thanks so much for the opportunity!”
