On June 20 BAS Stone hosted an industrial-chic party to celebrate the summer solstice and the grand opening of its stone yard in Long Island City, New York. Attended by more than 250 guests, the gala took place at the stunning new location—a soaring space housing exquisite slabs of pink quartz, limestone, blue agate, Italian marble and more.
“This special moment for our team signifies our commitment to redefining the world of stone,” said BAS Stone creative director Katibelle Sharkey. “We look forward to welcoming both new and returning clients to explore our meticulously curated stone selection in a fresh and inspiring space.”
Attendees included design influencers Alvin Wayne, Annabelle Gao and Julian Thomas, as well as Amy Hau from The Noguchi Museum and filmmaker John Wilson. Representatives of the Female Design Council—founder Lora Appleton and director Angharad Coates—and members of the press, including Architectural Digest’s Allie Weiss, Metropolis’s Travis Ward and The Local Project’s James Lyall Smith, were also on hand.
Guests sipped Lallier champagne, Meli Quinoa beer, Mayenda tequila, palomas with Yola mezcal, and Ghia Le Spritz nonalcoholic cocktails; savored delectable bites concocted by acclaimed chef Romilly Newman; and danced to deep beats from DJs Matt Asti and Will Berman of MGMT.
BAS Stone is one of a select few women-led companies in the male-dominated world of stone and marble. Co-founded by brothers Tony and Sam Sayegh, the family-owned business has been in the industry for more than 50 years, and its commitment to empowering women is reflected in its current management. In addition to Sharkey’s creative direction, dynamic leaders including Natalia Monko-Nykiel and Monika Porembski oversee sales.
