The ideal candidate will have professional textile development experience with a focus in a home furnishing design market. The qualifications we are seeking include comprehensive knowledge of weaving structures and print techniques. Artistic competencies include strong color literacy, hand painting / coloring and basic hand weaving. Professional attributes include the ability to prioritize competing demands effectively with clear focus, solid work ethics and excellent organizational planning. This position is works in a highly collaborative environment, actively engaging with the design director and a close-knit design team.

DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with design director / design team on the development of wallcovering.
• Creation of prototype designs for woven and printed wallcovering based on team sourcing under the guidance of Design Director.
• Preparation of instruction boards for mill samples and color trials of new designs using physical materials and digital tools.
• Monitor continuity and expansion of color palette within brand parameters.
• Manage timeline of new collection development into production.
• Maintain trialing and production records throughout process from initial trials through coloring and purchasing into production phase.
• Assist design team in coordinating initial purchasing and production to meet launch deadlines.
• Organize test hanging / vetting of new product with professional installer before final approval.
• Collaborate with design team ensuring product offering – fabric and wallcovering - remains cohesively integrated and complimentary.
• Communicate and collaborate as needed with other departments such as merchandising and marketing teams.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 3-5 years designing experience in a home furnishing textile & wallcovering design studio.
• Strong understanding of wallpaper end-use, installation and installation concerns primarily for residential application.
• Contract wallcovering knowledge a plus.
• Working knowledge of wallcovering materials -including typical natural fibers and their features, substrates etc...
• Understanding of weaving and printing methods and parameters – both screen and digital.
• Hand painting and hand weaving skills preferred.
• Educational studies and relevant course work in design, printing, weaving, fine art.
• Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite
