Almost 300 guests gathered to celebrate the launch of a new limited-edition luxury carpet collection from OBEETEE by the Indian fashion duo Abraham & Thakore at ABC Carpet & Home. The launch event, titled “India’s Makers and Muses,” was also a celebration of ABC’s 30-year focus on Indian textiles, craft and innovation and its move from its iconic 6th floor to its exciting new incarnation on the 2nd floor.
Renowned trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort presented her “Indian Summer” color trends, which, like the collection, emphasize the ingenuity of the human hand. Teas were served from House of Waris Tea & Spice Co., drinks and bites were by ABC Restaurants, and music was by The Human Experience.
“This collection proudly showcases India’s modern design sensibility, along with its rich traditions of weaving, washing and dying of rugs,” said Graham Head, vice chairman of ABC Carpet & Home.
Other notable attendees included Elle Decor’s Whitney Robinson; Frank de Biasi; Tim Marshall, provost of The New School; designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia; Berluti’s Patrick Ottomani; Aslaug Magnusdottir, co-founder of Moda Operandi; James Truman; Vogue’s Sarah Brown; Alexander Vreeland; JG Neukomm; Sana Rezwan Sait; Paulette Cole and Amy Ilias of ABC Carpet & Home; Rudra Chatterjee, OBEETEE chairman; Gaurav Sharma, OBEETEE managing director; Patricia Ben-Zvi, president, OBEETEE North America; and Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty, the Consul General of India in New York.
