The Female Design Council held its inaugural event with 1sdibs at The Standard, High Line last month with a panel of women in design, who discussed business strategy, philosophy, mentoring and charting an individualized career path. The panel was led by Lora Appleton, founder of the Female Design Council and kinder MODERN, and she was accompanied by Amy Lau of Amy Lau Design, Cristina Grajales of Cristina Grajales Gallery, and Monica Khemsurov of Sight Unseen and Sight Unseen Offsite. Over 120 guests attended the event.
“I was honored and amazed by the incredible support from the New York City female design community last night,” says Appleton. “Having had a seed of an idea grow organically to include incredible industry partners like 1stdibs, as well as engaging thoughtful conversations with tenured female panelists, was humbling. There is a clear need and want for the Female Design Council, and we can’t wait to further engage this inspired and growing community of women designers.”
