Tivoli Audio has named David Hampson as the winner of the BBC Radio 4 Today program’s radio design contest. The winning Model 10+ radio will go on sale this fall in the UK for £160 ($249).  For each radio sold, £50 ($78) will go to BBC Children in Need, a charity that helps disadvantaged youth in the UK.

The submitted designs were judged by the following panel: Sarah Montague, Presenter, Today; Stevie Spring, Chair of Trustees, BBC Children in Need; Deyan Sudjic, Director, The Design Museum; Ceri Thomas, Editor, Today; and Tom DeVesto, Chairman, Tivoli Audio.

Winning designer David Hampson, commented, “When the BBC rang me and told me that I had won the radio design competition I was absolutely thrilled. It is amazing to think that my design will actually go into production, especially on something as sophisticated as a Tivoli Audio radio, and I will be able to see it in shops and on Web sites – with my name on the back panel! I’m also very pleased it will be used to help raise money for BBC Children in Need.”

Tom DeVesto, Tivoli Audio Chairman, Chief Designer, and Founder added, “It’s a privilege to help BBC Children in Need raise money for well deserving children. It’s a thrill to do it in conjunction with the BBC and to help put a spotlight on a little known designer.”

Tivoli Audio was founded by DeVesto, an innovator in the audio industry, who is responsible for some of the best-selling and most innovative hi-fi and multimedia speaker products available. Tivoli products represent a level of sound quality and fit-and-finish, which is unequalled in their price range.

The Today program launched in October 1957 and has been BBC Radio 4’s flagship news and current affairs production ever since. Seven million listeners tune in each week, and in November 2012 Today will return from its current base at Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush to its original home at the renovated Broadcasting House.
