How are design and technology converging? Pratt Institute, in conjunction with NYC Media Lab, endeavored to find out in a discussion entitled "Design, Technology and the Future" between Justin Hendrix, NYC Media Lab’s executive director, and Phillip Tiongson, principal and creative director at Potion Design Studio.

Held at Civic Hall with a reception sponsored by Sixpoint Brewery, the event celebrated Pratt's biannual publication Differentiate by Design and was a highlight of "Pratt Presents," a series of public programs that cast a spotlight on artists, designers, thought leaders and other influencers. The discussion posed such compelling questions as: "As technology continues to evolve, where is it taking us? What are the emerging trends in digital media and communications? How are designers and artists engaging with technology in unexpected ways?"

Tiongson shared his take: “Technology is getting closer to us, and the closer it gets the more we become aware of our humanity.” As for the future, he explained, it “is about being attuned to the present, what we make and how it affects people now.” Learn more about “Pratt Presents."
