SHERWIN-WILLIAMS has revealed OCEANSIDE (SW 6496), an opulent jewel-toned hue, as its 2018 Color of the Year. Inspired by wanderlust, the paint leader says the selected color is meant to echo today’s societal and cultural trends.
“People today have a growing sense of adventure, and it is making its way into even the coziest corners of our homes. We are craving things that remind us of bright folklore, like mermaids and expeditions across continents,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Oceanside is the color of wanderlust right in our homes.”
The hue also reflects the muted tones of Sherwin-Williams’s 2018 COLORMIX COLOR FORECAST, its latest annual palette prediction, announced earlier this year. Oceanside derives from the Unity palette, which pairs the naturally versatile hue with sandy beige, desert taupes and energetic, neon pinks.
“Green-blues in deep values, such as Oceanside, respond to changes in light, which is a quality that creates intense dimension,” says Wadden. “It has a new twist on navy, a common color for use in commercial spaces. When placed correctly, it is refreshing and offers dimension and depth as a statement color.”
