Asian art, opulent 19th century decor, the private collections of Lauren Bacall and Lars Bolander and historical architectural objects such as the Baptistery Gates from St. Patrick's Cathedral are among unique items up for auction this month.

Doyle at Home (Doyle, March 10, New York)

This month’s Doyle at Home auction will feature a selection of Asian art, as well as prints, paintings, porcelain, silver and rugs. Other highlights of the 471 lots for auction include a pair of Edwardian Style Satinwood side tables, a pair of red, painted chinoiserie decorated mirrors and a Regency-style mahogany revolving bookcase.

Fine English Furniture, sculpture and works of art (Bonhams, March 11, London)

Bonhams in London is auctioning off 220 lots of exemplary traditional English furniture, art and sculpture. Highlights include a Roman mid-19th-century micromosaic circular tabletop inset into a carved giltwood and gesso base, possibly by the workshop of Michelangelo Barberi (1787-1867). Also available are a pair of Regency rosewood, crossbanded and brass inlaid card tables and a George III mahogany serpentine chest, possibly by Thomas Chippendale.

The Opulent Eye: 19th-century furniture, sculpture and works of art (Christie’s, March 11, London)

With pieces drawn from international collections, the 243 lots of The Opulent Eye, presented by Christie’s, represent the varied styles of the 19th century. The ornamented furniture, lighting, clocks, marble statuary, and crystal chandeliers range from Napoleonic grandeur to the Art Nouveau of Belle Epoque Paris. Offerings include a pair of early 20th-century large Neo-gothic brass seventeen-light torcheres, a Napoleon III gilt-copper-mounted walnut occasional table attributed to Charles-Guillaume Diehl and a French ormolu, cut-glass and crystal eighteen-light chandelier by Baccarat from the late 19th/early 20th century.

Christie’s Interiors (Christie’s, March 17 and 18, London)

The 398-lot auction features furniture and decorative items from the 17th century through the 21st century, ranging over 25 stylistic periods. The variety ensures that this auction has something for any taste or design need.

The Collection of Robert Hatfield Ellsworth Volume II: Chinese Furniture and Scholars Objects, Chinese Paintings (Christie’s, March 18 to 21, New York)

Concurrent with Asia Week New York, Christie’s will host a series of auctions and online-only sales featuring the Collection of Robert Hatfield Ellsworth. A distinguished scholar, collector and dealer, Ellsworth assembled a private collection of over 1,400 items of Asian art, fine English furniture, fine art, and decorative objects, all of which coexisted in his Manhattan residence. Including examples of ancient bronzes, Ming furniture, fine jade and modern Chinese paintings, and Himalayan, Indian and Southeast Asian works of art, Ellsworth’s collection is regarded as one of the most complete, and one of the greatest collections of Asian art in history. An international tour of the sale’s highlights will follow the auction period.

The Private Collection of Lars Bolander (Leslie Hindman, March 21, Florida)

Swedish interior designer Lars Bolander will auction art and furniture later this month. The collection is not only influenced by his classical training in Scandanavian design, but also his diverse education and experiences, reflecting a theatricality as well as a love of simplicity. The varied pieces range from traditional Swedish Gustavian chairs and a settee, to architectural trompe l’oeil furniture. Also for auction are the silver ram heads Bolander uses in his personal logo.

Design (Wright, March 26, Chicago)

Design by Wright is a presentation of the spectrum of styles associated with 20th century décor, and will feature French, Italian, Scandinavian and American offerings. Pieces included in the 339-lot auction are Castor and Pollux candlesticks by Salvador Dali, and furniture by Pierre Jeanneret from Chandigarh, which display a unique combination of Indian and French sensibilities.

Urban Archaeology Auction (Guernsey's, March 27 to 28, New York)

Collectors will be able to purchase items from a catalog of approximately 1,000 architectural artifacts from the TriBeCa offices of Urban Archaeology. Lots include objects from The Plaza and St. Regis Hotels and Yale University. The original Mermaid and Mermaid figures from Place de la Concorde’s fountain and the Baptistery Gates from St. Patrick’s Cathedral are also among items for sale.

The Lauren Bacall Collection (Bonhams, March 31 and April 1, New York)

Bonham’s will be auctioning the renowned art collection of the late Lauren Bacall following an international tour of sale highlights and a preview of the full collection from March 25 to March 30 in New York. The 750-lot sale features works from some of the greatest artists of the 20th century, as well as bronze sculptures, jewelry, tribal works of art, prints, paintings and decorative items.
