It takes two: check out eight new designer collaborations

When hoping to create the latest and greatest in product design, manufacturers often look to interior designers, artists and fashion designers to get a fresh design perspective. And when established manufacturers like Swarovski, Lee Jofa, The Rug Company, Groundworks, Wesley Hall, Imagine Tile, West Elm and Knoll Luxe pair up with a noted designers like Kelly Wearstler and James Huniford, just to name a few, it’s bound to create stir.

As part of an ongoing series, Editor at Large is highlighting some of these unique unions:

Kelly Wearstler + Swarovski

Kelly Wearstler has launched a limited-edition collection in partnership with Swarovski, available exclusively at luxury retailer Forty Five Ten in Dallas. Select pieces will also be available online through farfetch.com. The collection includes 10 unique home accessories designed in Wearstler’s “signature maximalist style.”

Each piece is inspired by Swarovski and reflects Wearstler’s love for minerals and crystals. Items including hand-crafted wood ornaments, silk scarves, vintage cotton tees, and canvas and leather totes incorporate use Swarovski crystal as a creative ingredient.

Additionally, two bespoke limited-edition crystal-adorned Super Luxe Head Trip Sculptures will also be offered in this collection. The piece features more than 27 varieties of Swarovski crystal shapes, a mixture of 48 different sizes and in more than 15 colors. Hand crafted in Los Angeles, they are one-of-a-kind and signed by Wearstler. Prices start at $150.

James Huniford + Lee Jofa

New York City-based interior designer James Huniford has teamed up with Lee Jofa to create a collection of fabrics featuring soft and supple textures like velvet, mohair, cotton chenille and washed linen, offered in a range of colors: stone, ivory, slate, celery and lavender.

This exclusive collection, Huniford's first with Lee Jofa, remains true to his design philosophy, "interiors should be tailored to how people live." In addition, many of the fabrics in the James Huniford collection are available through a new program called Lee Jofa Express, a solution created for time-sensitive projects.

Rodarte + The Rug Company

The Rug Company, who has partnered with the likes of Kelly Wearstler and Diane von Furstenberg, has teamed up with Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte for a new collection of rugs.

For the Rodarte for The Rug Company collection, the design-duo created four rugs—Trellis, Marble, Cobalt and Ember—each of which are expressions of the designers’ interest in age-old weaving techniques. The Trellis design showcases an ivy motif that brings to mind fairytale fantasies, while the Cobalt rug was inspired by 1970s Northern California interiors. Ember's design was inspired by the landscape of America’s Death Valley.

Hunt Slonem + Groundworks

Groundworks has introduced a collection of vibrant fabrics, wallpapers, and carpets designed by artist Hunt Slonem, a world-renowned artist best known for his Neo-Expressionist paintings of exotic animals and tropical plant life.

Slonem's inspiration for his subjects and palettes, can be traced to childhood visits to Hawaii and Nicaragua. For the Groundworks' collection, his works have been translated into prints, embroideries, weaves, wallpapers and carpets.

Peter Jacob + Wesley Hall

Interior designer Peter Jacob has teamed up with Wesley Hall for a collection of furniture—sofas, chairs, occasional tables, ottomans and more. The pieces were all inspired by menswear, every piece “well dressed, but not stuffy,” as Jacob describes. The collection features textural plaids, velvets and leather in a mix of warm and cool colors.

nemaworkshop + Imagine Tile

Architecture and design studio nemaworkshop has created the Bibliophile Collection for Imagine Tile, a mural inspired by the New York Public Library. The 48-inch by 96-inch repeating pattern depicts a bookcase in brown tones on 18 different ceramic tiles.

Nemaworkshop initially created the tile for a library-themed coffee shop in Manhattan near the New York Public Library flagship at Bryant Park. The mural was intended as an exclusive piece for the cafe, but after garnering attention, Imagine Tile reached out to nemaworkshop with an offer to make the product available to the design community at large.

Kate Spade + West Elm

Kate Spade Saturday, the new sister brand of Kate Spade, has teamed up with West Elm to create a line of bedding, rugs, furniture, lighting, artwork and more. With prices ranging from $19 for a jewelry box to $800 for a rug, the collection will be available online starting Dec. 30 and in stores in January.

Maria Corneio + Knoll Luxe

Last but not least, Knoll Luxe has released its latest fashion collaboration, a collection with Chilean-American designer Maria Cornejo. This is the fourth collaboration between a fashion house and Knoll Luxe. Inspired by Maria and Creative Director Dorothy Cosonas’ mutual love of rich, eclectic patterns, the collection includes four upholsteries and two draperies.
