Anna Mavrakis, past president of the Interior Design Society, has been named the organization’s Fellowship Award winner. As IDS shares, “Becoming an IDS Fellow is the highest honor that can be awarded to a member and is only bestowed every few years, when there is a member worthy of such an honor. Achieving the distinction of IDS Fellowship recognizes individual interior designers for outstanding accomplishments in their profession and for providing a significant contribution to IDS.”
Mavrakis passed the Council for Qualification of Residential Interior Designers (CQRID) in 1988 and has been a professional-level member of IDS since 1999. She has served as president of the Northeast Ohio chapter and was elected as IDS National president, serving from 2011 to 2013.
The award was presented to Mavrakis by the current IDS president, Jan Cregier, who says that Mavrakis “was instrumental in steering [IDS’s] ship during the turbulent economic times for our industry. This was not an easy feat, but she worked seamlessly with the staff to make sure IDS survived.”
Cregier added, “As many of you know, IDS has a new professional membership level, which sets our organization apart from all other design trade organizations. To date, this has been one of the most significant changes that IDS has made, and the direct results due to this membership change have been remarkable. Changing professional-level requirements was her idea. She recognized a need for change to keep up with changing times.”
