Five finalists have been selected in Lowe's and Waverly's Paint for a Purpose collaborative program. The national contest asked participants what they would do for their community with a $10,000 makeover and Waverly paint.

Here is how these finalists would make a positive impact in their communities and change lives through colors:

Deb Burlingame, of Vancouver, WA, would update the homeless shelter where she volunteers in the hopes of brightening peoples’ spirits.

Louise Mattson, of Mendota Heights, MN, would brighten up the space of a homeless shelter, Avenues for Homeless Youth, a nonprofit in north Minneapolis has that mission to support and assist young individuals who are homeless.

Erin King, of Smithville, OH, would make her house a home as money is very tight for her. She previously had to live in public housing and use food stamps to survive.

William Tracy, of Neward, DE, would make his wife's life a little nicer. Tracy had to take a job 7 hours away from his wife and 6 kids, and only gets to see them every other month.

Christy Seifert, of Meadville, MO, would paint her Kindergarten classroom and would love to be able to see the incoming Kindergarteners coming into a brightly painted classroom for the first time.

Designers are invited to vote through Monday, August 6.  Click through the 5 Paint for A Purpose Finalists & "Like" your favorite to help them win $10,000 to change lives through color
