When the American Craft San Francisco Show returns to the Fort Mason Center over August 5 to 7, it will host its annual “Make Room: Modern Design Meets Craft” decor exhibition. The theme for this year’s showcase is “4 Directions” (north, south, east, west): Designers and architects will debut vignettes inspired “by objects of fine craft that either literally or metaphorically explore how geography and climate influence the culture and design aesthetic of a particular region,” drawing on furniture, light fixtures, decorative accessories and textiles. Artisans from the American Craft Council will provide art for the vignettes.
This year’s designers include Andrew Mann of Andrew Mann Architecture; Leslie Shapiro Joyal of Shapiro Joyal Studio; Alden Miller of Alden Miller Interiors; and Natalie Stone, Barbara Woortmann and Alexa Eisner of Creator (Conceptions).
“Part of the joy of collecting is incorporating fine craft into your home, and we want to provide our American Craft Show visitors with some great examples of how to do just that, using top designers from San Francisco,” says Pamela Diamond, the American Craft Council’s director of marketing and communications. “In addition, we want to expose the local design community to the high-end craft made by our makers, many of whom have reached the level of artisan through years of studying and working in a specific medium, teaching and having their work displayed in galleries and museums all over the world.”
