Comings & Goings: Design professionals on the move

The design industry is awash with new and changing faces. Editor at Large is tracking who's coming and who's going. Below are a few changes of note.

Robert Rufino will be the new interiors editor of ELLE DECOR, effective April 29. He will be responsible for producing many of the interiors feature stories for which the brand is so well known. Rufino was most recently interiors editor of Architectural Digest.

KAA Design Group has become two studios: Kirkpatrick Architects and Evens Architects, each directed by principals Grant Kirkpatrick and Erik Evens, respectively. Kirkpatrick will be devoted to warm contemporary design solutions for modern living, while Evens will specialize in traditional residential design anchored in classical design but attuned to the spirit and needs of the modern world. They will continue to work out of the KAA offices in west Los Angeles.

Jared Miller is the newly-appointed Business & Operations Manager at David Kleinberg Design Associates, replacing Charles Baran. He has previously worked in a similar capacity with Alessandra Branca and Charlotte Moss as well as having run his own interior design business management consulting firm, Jared Miller LLC.

Andres (Dru) Ortega, a Senior Account Supervisor + Creative Lead at Kaplow Communications, is heading to One Kings Lane to be its Consumer PR Manager. Dana Cohen, Senior Account Executive at Kaplow, has left to pursue other opportunities.

Kate Bergeron, formerly a Design Professional at the D&D Building, is now an Account Executive at Andrew Joseph PR.

Jennifer Beek and Georgie Hambright co-founded the design firm J+G Design. Beek was formerly a design assistant for Harry Heissmann, Inc. and an intern for Albert Hadley. Hambright was a design assistant at Blair Harris Interior Design and an Administrative/ Design Assistant for Bunny Williams Inc.

Caroline Vaughn has been appointed showroom manager at JAB.

Leslie Carothers, the CEO of The Kaleidoscope Partnership, is a new business partner and minority owner in Olioboard.com. Carothers will lead initiatives that support our objectives in the growth of Olioboard.com through social media as well as play an integral role in business development.

Lisa Vossler Smith has been named Executive Director of Palm Springs Modernism Week. Smith is the former Senior Director of Administration and Operations for the Palm Springs Art Museum, and will assume a position previously held by Nickie McLaughlin.

Dana Andrew, vice president of International Market Center’s (IMC) global marketing & communications team, is leaving the organization on April 19. She is relocating to northern California but will continue collaborating with IMC as a senior marketing and communications advisor as well as work on new initiatives.

Angelia Singleton has been appointed to the newly created position of director of retail relations for Gift+Home at Las Vegas Market, effective immediately. She will report directly to James Nail, International Market Center’s vice president, gift marketing.

Home furnishings writer, editor and marketing/communications specialist Kimberley Wray has been named Editorial Director of FurnitureDealer.Net, a website and networking strategy for home furnishings companies.

Italian designer Elena Pacenti is joining NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego (NSAD) to become the director of the Domus Academy School of Design. She comes from Domus Academy, an award-winning school in Milan, Italy, renowned for its design programs.

Merridien has named Fabio Pelosini Regional Sales Manager. He will be based in an office in Firenze, Italy, representing the company and its portfolio of higher-end American brands for furniture, lighting, and accessories.
