The showhouse will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
A few of the designers shared their insights into Holiday House Hamptons:
The principals of 2Michaels, sisters Jayne and Joan Michaels, lost their mother to breast cancer when they were young adults. The duo, who are designing the home office, the showhouse's first shoppable room in partnership with 1stdibs, shared with EAL, “What is so special about the Hamptons is the purity of air and light. The water provides a spiritual element. Our room is an appreciation of these simple but essential ingredients. It’s what life should be about.”
Water also factors into Elizabeth Dow Home’s theme for the master bedroom and bath. Elizabeth Dow sourced inspiration from a recent boat trip throughout the Greek Islands, specifically, the fishing villages and the colors of the landscape, which inspired the theme for her rooms: “You, Me and the Sea.”
Scott Maddux of Maddux Creative first learned of the initiative abroad. “My business partner Jo [leGleud] and I were introduced to [Holiday House founder] Iris [Dankner] on a recent visit to London, discussing the possibility of bringing the event there,” he said. “We were touched and inspired by her story and her enthusiasm, and so we decided to get involved in the Hamptons! I had also visited the previous Holiday House Hamptons, and was very impressed by the work of the designers taking part. I thought this would be a great event to be involved with, and here we are!”
Of the team’s inspiration for the house’s entryway and foyer, Maddux said, “Our space is inspired by the rugged and remote coastline of Cornwall, U.K., and equally its strong modern artistic heritage from the ’40s and ’50s, in particular, the work of Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. I find there are some interesting similarities between Cornwall and the Hamptons!”
V-Starr is designing the rooftop tennis court. Venus Williams shares, “The roof deck is such a unique space, with both a tennis court and the incredible views of the water. Our vision was to design a space that reflected this while staying true to the Hamptons spirit. The deck will showcase Roche Bobois, specifically the new outdoor Traveler collection.” As for inspiration, she shared, “With the Olympics happening in Rio de Janeiro, we wanted to draw off the vibrancy of the Brazilian culture. The ‘Olympics in Rio’ roof deck will feature bright pops of colors reminiscent of the city. We drew inspiration for this from a colorful pattern in my athletic apparel line, EleVen.”
Liaigre is designing the master deck. The design team shared, “The intention of this outdoor space adjacent to the master bedroom is to promote the concept of living well. The design drew inspiration from Belle Isle, a French island off the coast of Brittany. The island has been a popular location for renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Henry Matisse, who each praised Belle Isle for its exquisite views and sense of solitude. The team felt motivated by the spirit of the cause: “Seeing the interior design community come together to benefit BCRF has made Holiday House such a special showhouse within the industry. The committed group behind the event, actively working together to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer, has made it one of the premier showhouses to participate in.”
