By embracing accessibility, designers can create spaces that provide their clients with greater independence and comfort, ultimately improving their quality of life and empowering them to live at home longer. Plus, such features can boost the overall value of a property, appealing to a broader range of potential tenants or buyers. But while the population of individuals with different physical needs continues to increase, the inclusion of such accommodations in interior design schemes remains at a minimum. Blue Copper Design founder Maegan Blau is here to challenge and change that. With a personal understanding of disability and a passion for design, she knows how to seamlessly integrate barrier-free components into projects without sacrificing style. By adopting the methods she’ll share in this workshop, you’ll soon have the skill set necessary to create stunning interiors that are truly inclusive.
In this class, attendees will learn:
- Talk to clients about current and future accessibility needs
- Implement barrier-free design elements in the home
- Plan for longevity and ensure adaptability to life’s changes by addressing accessibility needs at the start of a project
After this class, attendees will have:
- Blau’s Barrier-Free Design Guide: a downloadable plan of accessibility enhancements to add in each room
- An understanding of why residential accessibility is an important and urgent problem to address
- More confidence in how to approach the issue of accessibility with their clients
