During September's annual What’s New What’s Next at the New York Design Center, Business of Home’s columnist and podcast host Dennis Scully was joined by interior designer Ryan Korban at the EJ Victor showroom for a live recording of BOH’s weekly podcast. The discussion, presented by Chairish Inc., explored Korban’s beginnings and early career, offered some expert tips for those looking to achieve success in the industry, and celebrated the launch of the collaboration between Korban and EJ Victor.
More than 75 designers and industry insiders crowded the showroom sat in on the in-depth conversation, as well as Anna Brockway, co-founder and president, Chairish Inc. Anna Brockaway, and BOH's editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen and managing editor Fred Nicolaus.
“I think what a lot of people get hung up on in this industry is there’s only two ways to make money: by your time, and a percentage of what you sell,” said Korban during the conversation. “We’re in such a unique time, [and for] someone who works in aesthetics or design, there [are] so many other avenues to grow and make cash flow and you don’t have to be stuck. It’s a really great time for creative people.”
