Elle Decor, Faena, and Luxury Living Group kicked off Art Basel Miami with an exclusive party at the private residence of hotelier Alan Faena, whose home was shot by renowned photographer Douglas Friedman and is featured on the December cover. Among the al fresca Fendi Casa lounges, over 160 guests enjoyed music by DJ Richie Hell, Faena’s signature Argentine asado, and spirits courtesy of Armand de Brignac and D'Ussé. The man of the hour sat on a throne in his living room, which was packed with friends, a giant golden Buddha sculpture, glowing candles and an extensive crystal collection. Walls painted Faena Red enveloped the entire space, adding to the sensual mood.
Among the stylish crowd were Elle Decor editor in chief Whitney Robinson, Raffaella Vignatelli, Mia Moretti, Carolina Klienman, Shawn Henderson, Sasha Bikoff, Robert Stilin, Hassan Pierre, Douglas Friedman, Ellie Cullman, Fawn Galli, Fernando Wong, Hernan Arriaga, James Huniford, Jean-Louis Deniot, Peti Lau, Cliff Fong, and Lisa and Lenny Hochstein.
“The genesis of this whole thing started because Alan has parties at his house every Art Basel, but they’re really intimate parties and just for friends,” Robinson told WWD, about attending one such party last year. “I walked in and was like, ‘OK, we have our cover for next December.” He continued, “[Faena is] this visionary tastemaker who has totally reinvigorated and reshaped Miami architecture and design in six years.”
