The Black Interior Designers Network (BIDN) welcomed the return of the African American Top 10 Interior Designers list and celebration, which took place at the New York Design Center on May 15. Originally conceived by the network’s late founder, Kimberly Ward, the awards are now led by BIDN president Keia McSwain and a network of judges, including Asad Syrkett of Elle Decor, Amy Astley of Architectural Digest, Kaitlin Petersen of Business of Home, Katy Olson of Material Bank and Hadley Keller of House Beautiful. The judges were asked to consider Black interior designers who are not only producing original, daring and emotion-evoking work but also involved in the design community and actively endeavoring to uplift fellow Black interior designers.
The class of 2022/2023 AA Top 10 Interior Designers is as follows: Brigette Romanek of Romanek Design Studio, Corey Damen Jenkins of Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates, Dani Arps of Artisan Alliance, Danielle Colding of Danielle Colding Design, General Judd of Me and General Design, Michel Boyd of Michel Smith Boyd LLC, Ron Woodson of Woodson & Rummerfield’s House of Design, Shawn McLean-Bergel of McLean Bergel, Tavia Forbes and Monet Masters of Forbes & Masters and Tiffany Brooks of Tiffany Brooks Interiors.
“We were elated to celebrate our outstanding group of African American interior designers with such supportive partners at 200 Lex,” said McSwain. “Jim Druckman and his team have been working on this event with us for over three years; along with Kohler, The Shade Store and Benjamin Moore, they made this an unforgettable event.”
