Peter Shelton, a partner with Lee Mindel of Shelton, Mindel & Associates, died of cancer on August 26. They launched their firm in 1978 and garnered 25 awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Last year, the firm won the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Interior Design.

Margaret Russell, editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest, said of the firm in the New York Times: "They had a great appreciation for structure as well as materials and texture. They were always figuring out how to make something more minimal and streamlined. The product would be pure and beautiful, but there was a complicated thought process behind that purity.”
