NYDC hosts 'Designers in Residence' for new program
By Staff

The New York Design Center (NYDC) is proud to introduce Access to Design, which aims to educate the consumer about the value and significance of good design.

For the first time in NYDC history, consumers will be able to enter the trade-only building and shop over 500,000 square feet of designer showrooms, and have an exclusive group of “Designers in Residence” at their disposal, at no fee. The group consists of 25 to 30 high-profile professionals designers, varying in style, approach, experience, and fee structure, each of whom will be available onsite during showroom hours.

Participating "Designers in Residence" include: Kirsten Brant of k.brant Interiors; Thomas Burak of Thomas M. Burak Interiors; Etienne Coffinier and Ed Ku of Coffinier Ku Design; Vanessa DeLeon of Vanessa DeLeon Associates; Francis D’Haene of D’Apostrophe; Darren Henault of Darren Henault Interiors; Kevin Isbell of Kevin Isbell Interiors; Laura Kirar of Tru Design; Liza Laserow of Laserow Antiques; Richard Lee of Richard Lee Design; Lydia Marks and Lisa Frantz of Marks & Frantz; Patricia Healing and Daniel Barsanti of Healing Barsanti; Glenn Lawson of Glenn Lawson Inc.; John Chadwick of Interiors by John Chadwick; Drew McGukin of Drew McGukin Interiors; Joan Michaels and Jayne Michaels of 2Michaels; Robert Passal of Robert Passal Interior and Architecture Design; Tara Seawright of Tara Seawright Inc./Interior Design; and Michelle Slovak of Michelle Slovak Interior Design.

The office will be staffed by a Design Services manager who will oversee the initial consultation with the consumer, ensuring the budget, aesthetic and overall needs are matched to an appropriate designer and/or service.  Whether it’s learning more about the building or specific showrooms, hiring a designer for one room or advising on furniture purchases, the Design Services Manager will offer targeted and suitable solutions.

Participating designers will also keep showroom hours in a newly built professional office on the fourth floor of NYDC. The office features work stations and resources that include an extensive design book and magazine library, a series of designer education seminars, and a dedicated Design Services Manager to help navigate and shop the NYDC.

“Access to Design was created to teach the consumer the immense value our industry and its professionals can offer,” said Jim Druckman, NYDC President. “Having trained with and used thousands of materials and finishes, the designers fully understand the process, the people and the products, in turn providing highly-designed and often the most cost-effective solutions for a project.”
