International Global Excellence Award winners announced

The International Interior Design Association today announced the winners of the 2nd annual Global Excellence Awards, an international Interior Design competition honoring the best in Interior Design projects from around the world. Truly global in scope, the winners of the competition were chosen from 92 international design firms from 32 countries around the globe.

“We were extremely impressed with the quality of entries and the depth of design talent demonstrated for the 2011 Global Excellence Awards,” said Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, Executive Vice President and CEO of IIDA. “The high caliber of work submitted in these projects demonstrates the value of excellent design and the diverse, cultural differences throughout the world.”

The 2011 winners were chosen from projects submitted in 10 practice areas. The winners were selected as the best of outstanding originality and excellence in the creation of international Interior Design/architecture projects.

In the Residences category, the winner is Wing and its Feather in Vaud, Switzerland by Interior Design Philosophy, Saint-Légiér, Switzerland. Honorable Mention was the Y2 House in Kyoto, Japan by e-kafu/yasuyuki fukae Design, Osaka, Japan and Ukrainian Loft in Kiev, Ukraine by 2B group, Kiev, Ukraine.

In the Restaurants category, the winner is the restaurant at the Lijiang Pullman Resort and Spa Hotel in Yunnan, China by CCD/CHENG CHUNG DESIGN (HK) LTD. Honorable Mention was the Chang Palace & Li Bai Lounge in Taipei, Taiwan by AB Concept and the Der SPIEGEL Canteen in Hamburg Germany by Ippolito Fleitz Group GmbH.

In the Retail category, the winner is 24 ISSEY MIYAKE Hakata in Fukuoka, Japan by MOMENT. Honorable Mention goes to American Rag Cie in Aichi, Japan by MOMENT.

The 2011 judging panel included Mari Balestrazzi, Senior Vice President of Design at Morgans Hotel Group; Julio Braga, Design Director/Principal at IA Interior Architects; Patrick McEneany, Creative Director of BMW Group DesignworksUSA and Joey Shimoda, IIDA, CEO of Shimoda Design Group.

The 2011 Best of Competition winner, selected from the Best of Category winners, will be announced and receive a one-of-a-kind Swarovski Award at a special reception at which all winning design projects will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21 at Maison & Objet in Paris, France.
