House & Garden names a new editor

Today, Condé Nast announced that as of July 21, Talib Choudhry is House & Garden’s new editor. “House & Garden is a title I’ve long admired for its spirit, integrity, and celebration of beauty in all its forms,” said Choudhry in a release. “I’m honored to join the team in London and build on its extraordinary momentum.”

Choudhry joins the London-based shelter magazine from another Condé Nast brand, Architectural Digest Middle East, where he became the head of editorial content in September 2023, six years after joining as editor in chief. Under his leadership, the Dubai-based magazine transitioned from a licensed edition to a fully owned and operated Condé Nast publication. Prior to AD Middle East, Choudhry was based in London, where he spent two years as a design and interiors editor at The Telegraph and nearly five years as editor at large for Elle Decoration.

House & Garden was originally launched in the U.S. in 1901 and acquired by Condé Nast in 1915. The publication’s American edition went through many iterations before finally folding in 2007. The U.K. edition, meanwhile, debuted in 1947 and grew steadily into the successful brand it is today, with a readership of around 300,000. Choudhry succeeds Hatta Byng, who announced her departure in May. Byng was with the brand for 19 years, spending the past 11 at the helm. During her tenure, she courted a younger audience on social media and fueled growth by publishing a wide breadth of projects on different scales and budgets.

“Talib is a dynamic and forward-thinking editor with a keen understanding of how to tell compelling stories across all platforms, with a clear editorial voice and strong eye for design,” said Anna Wintour, the chief content officer at Condé Nast, in a release. “The strength of his vision, combined with an ability to reach a new generation of design lovers, makes him the ideal candidate to capture the singularity of House & Garden, and lead the title into a new chapter.”
