A group of "Emerging Leaders" will receive scholarships to attend the Design Futures Council's 14th annual Leadership Summit on Sustainable Design, in Dallas, Texas, October 11 to 13. The Council, a network of design, product and construction leaders from top architecture and design firms and other companies interested in sustainability and shaping the impact of the industry on the environment, singles out “future leaders who are having—and will increasingly have—an impact on design practices, design professions, and the community” as part of its mission.

The summit, now in its sixth year, convenes a 100-person group from top architecture, engineering, and construction firms, real estate companies, building product manufacturers, and educators from around the world with the goal of identifying sustainable design leaders.

Emerging Leader Ariane Laxo is an HGA interior designer and previous chairperson of U.S. Green Building Council’s Emerging Professionals National Committee. Laxo leads climate change and resiliency workshops, having participated in the Climate Reality Leadership Corps in 2014, as well as HGA’s resilient design task force, which is an interdisciplinary effort to address climate resilience in design. Other leaders include Vincent Martinez, director of development and operations for Architecture 2030, and Sam R. Bowling, a designer at Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company who has designed more than 20 million dollars’ worth of LEED-certified projects for the government.

The leadership summit will feature speakers including Jason McLennan of the International Living Future Institute, Paul Woolford, Design Principal for HOK's San Franciso office and Anica Landrenau, Director of Sustainable Consulting for HOK, among others. View the itinerary here.
