Furnex 2010, Egypt's International Furniture & Home Furnishing Trade Fair, invites U.S. buyers to attend its 7th-annual fair, June 3-7, 2010. Qualified buyers receive a paid four-day trip to the Fair.

More than 180 Egyptian manufacturers will present their latest products and production capabilities to buyers from Europe, the United States, Asia and the Middle East at the event. The 21,000 square-meter convention floor will showcase a broad range of furniture, including classic, modern, ethnic and contemporary styles. The range of designs includes residential, hotel, office, educational, kitchen, public area and outdoor furniture. Also on display are floorings, textiles, giftware and lighting systems.

“Furnex Egypt is one part of a long-term strategy to build an internationally recognized furniture design and production industry in Egypt,” said Ahmed Helmy, Chairman of Egyptian Furniture Export Council (EFEC), which manages the show. “Egypt’s furniture manufacturers benefit from a long tradition of craftsmanship. The sector continues to expand its product development and design capabilities and invest in both skilled labor and the most advanced technology as it strengthens its global presence.”

The event is the latest of several initiatives aimed at growing Egypt’s furniture exports from $260 million in 2007 to $1 billion by 2012. The industry push also looks to double total production over the period, from $1 billion to $2 billion, and expand the sector’s one million strong labor force.

“Quality has long been a fundamental characteristic of Egypt-made furniture but increasingly design is a key opportunity to differentiate Egypt from low-cost producers” said Helmy. “‘Made in Egypt’ furniture is poised to emerge as an international brand renowned for innovative design and uncompromising quality.” Furnex Egypt is one part of a long-term plan to build an internationally recognized furniture design and production industry in Egypt.

The annual Furnex Egypt convention is among select international furniture fairs to showcase Egypt’s manufacturing and design know-how. In recent years, local producers have presented at leading expositions, including Meuble Paris (France), Equip’ Hotel (France), Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Italy) and Birmingham Interiors (UK).
