The West Hollywood Design District (formerly The Avenues) has partnered up with Frances Anderton of KCRW’s DnA: Design and Architecture, who will guest curate the second edition of DIEM: Design Intersects Everything Made.

The one-day symposium, November 8, will build on the momentum of DIEM’s 2012 premiere, and will continue to forge relevant dialogue and cross-pollination between design disciplines, from fashion to interior design and architecture to art.

“I am excited to work with the team on creating a dialogue that people will take to dinner parties for weeks to come," said Anderton. "Where better to discuss the key design and architecture issues of the day than in the heart of the West Hollywood Design District?”

Last season’s one-day symposium took place across six West Hollywood Design District showrooms including Waterworks, Robert Kuo, Niche, Jules Seltzer, Christopher Guy and Minotti—and many others are on board this year.

9:30 a.m. Rose Tarlow Melrose House, 8540 Melrose Ave—LA Design and the View From Paris: Breakfast Q&A with Mallery Roberts Morgan, Design Writer and Creative Consultant/Correspondent AD France

At a kick-off breakfast for DIEM, Anderton will interview Mallery Roberts Morgan, longtime Paris resident who worked at Paris VOGUE and is the Los Angeles correspondent of AD France (French Architectural Digest). She will talk about her favorite designers in LA, and why her French friends think LA design is trés chic right now.

11:15 a.m. Woven Accents, 8674 Melrose Ave—Public Access Limited?: LA's New Era of White-Box Warehouse Galleries

LA’s art scene is undergoing a radical transformation, as evidenced in the growth of blue-chip “warehouse” galleries in the La Brea and Highland area. They are grand and impressive, and bode well for the city’s stature in the global art community—but what does this upward swing mean for everyday Angeleno art enthusiasts? Is the trend intimidating or inspiring? Join art critic Shana Nys Dambrot for a discussion about how the architectural setting informs the experience of art with Coagula founder and gallerist Mat Gleason; Perry Rubenstein, owner of Perry Rubenstein Gallery; and artist Jay Mark Johnson.

12:30 p.m. Niche, 8770 Beverly Blvd—Lunch Intermission: Jonathan Skow Talks about Being Mr. Turk

At a lunch for DIEM attendees, Anderton will talk to Jonathan Skow, photographer and husband of designer Trina Turk, who has launched his own line of men’s clothing, Mr. Turk. Skow will talk about how he went about building the line and the challenge of “balancing sexuality and tastefulness in social media.”

2:15 p.m. Poliform-Varenna, 8818 Beverly Blvd—Copying: Art or Crime?

Copying is a hot-button issue in the design industry today. Ray Azoulay, owner of Obsolete, Bianca Bosker, executive tech editor for Huffington Post and author of Original Copies: Architectural Mimicry in Contemporary China, will address the legal, moral and cultural issues surrounding copying with design and media consultant Marissa Gluck.

3:30 p.m. Christopher Guy, 8900 Beverly Blvd—What Do You Think? Roundtable with DIEM Attendees

In a break from the usual panel format, Anderton will host a dialogue between all DIEM attendees about a hot topic. DIEM will pose a challenging question to attendees, who will break out into groups and discuss, then share conclusions with the crowd. The question will not be announced in advance and will be based on issues that have emerged in the course of the day.

4:45 p.m. Leica Gallery LA, 8783 Beverly Blvd—Art Photography in the Age of Instagram

DIEM will conclude with a panel discussion at Leica’s glam new superstore on Beverly at Robertson. Charles Phoenix, hilarious and brilliant "Ambassador of Americana," will moderate a conversation about fine art photography in the age of the smartphone—with Patricia Lanza, director of talent and content at The Annenberg Space for Photography, and Cristopher Lapp, fashion and celebrity photographer and author of Instant Gratification - 21st Century Art and the Mobile Phone.
