Home improvement channel HGTV is looking for designers to participate in the fifth season of Design Star.

The top-rated program follows a new crop of architects, artists, interior designers/decorators and design enthusiasts as they navigate difficult design challenges to win their own show on HGTV.

HGTV has signed Mark Burnett, executive producer of reality competitions such as Survivor and The Apprentice, and his production team to produce the next season of the show.

Do you think you have what it takes to host your own series on HGTV? Would you love the challenge of competing in a design-based reality show?

Here’s the rundown of what HGTV is looking for:

Design Expertise: We're looking for great designers. Are you pushing the design envelope? Are you going all “green”? Are you taking the old and making it new and fresh? Whatever your design angle, we want to hear from you!

Personality That Pops: We want to see someone who shines. Design ability and expertise are most important, but you could wind up hosting your own show … do you have the personality millions want to watch?

Passion for Your Work: We're searching for designers who will bring the world of design and decorating to life in their very own passionate and unique way. The world of design is ever-expanding, so the more invested you are, the better.

Finalists will compete in design-based challenges with one to two designers being eliminated each week. The winner will become the host of their own design show.

“The Mark Burnett team is extremely creative and talented -- masters at crafting entertaining reality programming,” said Freddy James, senior vice president, programming development and production, HGTV. “We expect that they will infuse HGTV Design Star with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will serve as a blueprint for a successful fifth season.”

“We are thrilled to have our first program with HGTV and the Scripps family of networks,” Burnett said. “We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and making HGTV Design Star even bigger, better, and more exciting than it has been in seasons past.”

Previous HGTV Design Star winners include popular hosts David Bromstad and Kim Myles as well as season four winner Antonio Ballatore. Ballatore is currently in production for his new series, The Antonio Treatment, which premieres in March 2010.
