Atlanta gears up for a week of events with Design ADAC

May is all about great design for Atlantans—and it’s all happening during five action-packed days at ADAC. In partnership with VERANDA magazine, Design ADAC runs May 6 – 10, and features a series of guest speakers, new product introductions, the latest installation of designer-curated vignettes known as “ADAC: Behind the Windows,” as well as the annual Southeast Designers and Architect of the Year.

The week starts today with a “Kick Off Design ADAC Patio Party” from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. hosted by JANUS et Cie with mint juleps and light hors d’oeuvres. (ADAC West, Suite A1). Attendees must register for this event (register now).

On Tuesday, May 7, the second day of Design ADAC starts in the Fabricut Showroom (Suite 307) with breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Fabricut will transport guests to the French countryside and a lived-in simplistic lifestyle with its latest collection, French General, and its founder Kaari Meng.

The first keynote presentation will take place from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. and will feature Steve Elton and Michelle Clarke. Guests are invited to see what’s new in outdoor fabrics—Elton, chief brand officer at Brown Jordan Company and Clarke, director of design of outdoor products for Sunbury Textiles will walk attendees through the hot topic. At 11:30 a.m. Ernest Gaspard & Associates (Suite 109) invites guests to meet Elton and Clarke at a lunch reception immediately following the presentation.

Then, at 12:30 p.m. Ernest Gaspard & Associates hosts Gary Pedersen, Paris Texas Hardware’s Vice President of Sales, as he presents design concepts utilizing the Paris Texas Hardware collection of elegant drapery hardware. (Register now)

Michel Boyd of SMITHBOYD interiors unveils his award-winning aesthetic through unexpected yet attainable finds. Join Boyd from 1:00 – 2:15 p.m. in the Moattar, Ltd. Showroom (Suite 314) as he guides guests through his creative journey to making a room gorgeous and accessible. Refreshments will be served and a new Moattar signature candle will be raffled off.

From 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. books will be available for purchase from design icons represented by J Nelson (Suite 417) including: Nancy Corzine, Ann Getty and John Saladino.

The second keynote of the day will take place at 2:30 p.m. and feature Jillian Pritchard Cooke. Cooke will present the idea of “WWYW : Introduction to finding Wellness Within Your Walls.” From what’s underneath your sink to the drapes hanging in your windows, learn how the WWYW standard can simplify the overwhelming amount of information about toxins in the home furnishings industry. This introduction, part one of a four-part series, will introduce atendees to the WWYW program and help achieve a healthier interior environment. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Following the presentation, join Cooke for a tour of the Travis & Company showroom (Suite 128) to see all of the newly labeled WWYW products.

At 6:00 p.m. don’t miss “Happily Ever After: Celebrating Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.” Jane Austen’s masterpiece Pride and Prejudice is celebrating the 200th anniversary of its publication this year. Author Susannah Fullerton will discuss how the novel first came to be written, its first public reception in a world that didn’t take much notice of it, and its popularity that continues today. This event is sponsored by the Royal Oak Foundation and Culture Club and will take place in the Holland & Company Showroom, Suite 238.

On Wednesday, May 8, VERANDA Editor-in-Chief Dara Caponigro and designer Miles Redd present “Making It Your Own,” a look at how this debonair decorator finds inspiration from the past but reimagines it in a thoroughly new light to create rooms that are not only beautiful to look at but evoke deep emotional responses. Century Furniture invites attendees to a meet & greet luncheon with Redd and Caponigro following the presentation. Redd will also be signing copies of his latest book, The Big Book of Chic.

At 1:00 p.m., stop by the Duralee Showroom (Suite 125) for “Creative License: The Art of Design and Licensing your Talent.” Designer Laura Kirar, product licensing expert Kate Verner and Robin Gordon, Vice President of Marketing for Duralee, will discuss the process behind creating a licensed product collection: working with an agent, partnering with a brand, and finally the design process that results in a product line that represents your style. After the presentation, meet this talented panel and enjoy an array of delectable desserts.

Another keynote presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. and feature Charles Faudree, international designer and author, who will take attendees through his most recent interiors and discuss his latest licensed fabric, trimming and wallcovering collection with Stroheim. Join Faudree and Fabricut (Suite 307) for a reception and book signing following the presentation at 3:30 p.m.

From 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. a panel of experts asks “ Is Hiring an Interior Designer Worth It?” Three Atlanta-area clients who have recently embarked on the design process will talk with moderators Hillary Linthicum, co-founder of Design Collective, and Matthew Quinn, the award-winning designer and owner of Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio and Matthew Quinn Collection. They will discuss selecting a designer, understanding the design process, setting a budget and how proper management of the project can improve your overall lifestyle and enjoyment of your home. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium)

Mary McDonald and Martyn Lawrence Bullard

On Thursday, May 9, Caponigro along with Mary McDonald and Martyn Lawrence Bullard offer an inside look at how these two designers have uncovered the secrets to building their wildly successful brands. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Call 404-231-1720 to reserve a seat).

Following the presentation, guests are invited to the Schumacher Showroom (Suite 503A) for a reception to meet the designers and preview their newest collections exclusively for Schumacher.

From 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. celebrate the “Southeast Designers and Architect of the Year Open House.” Join several showrooms as they celebrate this year’s field of nominees for the esteemed Southeast Designers and Architect of the Year. Each showroom will host a meet & greet reception in honor of these talented design professionals and offer a preview of their newest lines.

A second keynote presentation will take place from 2:30 – 3:30 with designer Eric Cohler. “Interplay: Creating Fusion Between the Worlds of Design, Art, and Fashion,” a discussion of how design, architecture, art, fashion and film are intertwined within the world of interior design. Immediately following the presentation, join Cohler in the Lee Jofa Showroom (Suite 106) for a reception and book signing of Cohler on Design.

On Friday, May 10, Baker Furniture (Suite 206) and Anne Irwin Fine Art host a brunch at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the collaboration of art and design. Surrounded by some of Anne Irwin Fine Art’s most exquisite pieces, meet fellow designers and gallerists who masterfully blend fine art and high-end furnishings into their designs. Some of the city’s most talented artists will also be present working on their current pieces.

Throughout the week there will also be a number of showroom open houses and “all day” programs:

Sip champagne and be dazzled by the new Jan Showers Collection and the bold new fabric line with southern roots, Clay Studio, in the Ainsworth-Noah & Associates, Inc. Showroom (Suite 418/518).

30 Meeting brings an extensive collection of Suzanis and Ikats for a week-long trunk show, and all the items will be available for purchase in the Dogwood Fabrics Showroom (Suite 325).

Join Grizzel and Mann (Suite 120/227) as they present the spring collections of Osborne & Little, Nina Campbell, Designers Guild and Lorca.

Visit the Holland & Company Showroom (Suite 238) for an opportunity to view the new furniture collection from Julian Chichester.


Jerry Pair (Suite 508) will be spotlighting the freshest looks in textiles from Chase Erwin + Arctic, de Le Cuona, Hill Brown of Clarence House and Old World Weavers: Lelievre. Also, take a look at what’s next for Dedar and get a sneak peek at the fall collection, fresh from Italy.

Stop by Ann Sacks (Suite 207) for refreshments and light fare as they highlight their exclusive new spring collections.

Join Beau Holland at beau studio (Suite 301) as he reveals his latest QuickShop designs, providing custom finishes in 3 weeks and full custom in 4 weeks.

Be sure to see the newly represented boutique fabric and wallcovering lines in the BRADLEY showroom (Suite 133). BRADLEY will display the Flat Vernacular wallcovering alongside pieces from BRADLEY’S new spring collection.
