RealWorld DesignWeek, the annual nationwide mentoring program created by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and sponsored by Metropolis, is the first national program aimed at educating future interior designers through in-person experience.
From November 6-12, ASID student members will be paired with interior design professionals and ASID Industry Partners to get hands-on experience.
“I loved the idea of giving back to the design community by hosting a student for a day, but I never imagined how much I would learn in the process,” said Michelle Beamer, Allied Member ASID, principal of MB Interiors. “Seeing design through someone else’s eyes energized me and gave me new ideas.”
RealWorld DesignWeek activities include: attending client meetings, team meetings and vendor meetings; visiting the design center; touring past projects and construction sites; exploring library materials; reviewing bookkeeping basics; reviewing client binders and/or contracts; reviewing student’s resume and/or portfolio; and demos of CAD, Revit, SketchUp or other software programs.
More than 1,000 ASID members participated in the nationwide interior design mentoring program in 2010.
