The ASID New York Metro chapter has named its 2016–2017 chapter officers, including new president Glenn Gissler and eight other board members.

The board members were announced at an event last week held at the new Jonathan Adler showroom. Joining Gissler are Bjorn Bjornsson, president-elect; Virginia Guillian, financial director; Jewells Blackwell, membership director; Asler Valero, professional development director; Danielle McWilliams, communications director; Vanessa Deleon, director at large; Bonnie Hoeker, student representative; and Catarine Wright, emerging professionals chair.

Shares Gissler, “At ASID’s New York Metro chapter, we are starting this ASID year with a remarkably enthusiastic board and including some younger members to bring new vitality to the chapter. This is in addition to a number of significant initiatives started last year that target students and our younger designers, who we call Emerging Professionals.”

Among other initiatives, the chapter has revamped its magazine and expanded its distribution, and is also continuing designer outreach through social media platforms. “I’ve personally been doing direct outreach since last year to encourage some of the leading and best-known designers in NYC to join, including Alexa Hampton, Laura Kirar, Juan Montoya, Brad Ford and the 2Michaels,” says Gissler. “We’ve also been working hard on our Professional Development programming to provide current information about social media, legal issues in the industry, and much much more.”
