Architect and designer Luca Scacchetti has passed away, Donghia, a company of The Rubelli Group, announced this morning. Scacchetti recently served as designer for the Rubelli Casa furniture collection, which launched in Europe in April and will launch in the U.S. in spring of next year.
Born in Milan in 1952, Scacchetti graduated from the Politecnico di Milano, where he studied architecture. His first architectural works included restorations and new residential constructions in Lombardy, Switzerland and Germany. He later worked on the redesign of the international terminal at Rome Fiumicino Airport and several residential buildings in China. Scacchetti also designed a number of prominent residential and commercial projects, plus products for several notable Italian brands, and served as a teacher at the European Design Institute of Milan and at the Fine Arts Academy of Brera since the mid-1980's.
Rubelli chose Scacchetti among numerous candidates to design the launch of the Rubelli Casa collection, "owing to the designer's original and eclectic aesthetic that married styles from Milan and Venice."
