With 640-plus RSVPs, the Los Angeles' A + D Museum Gala Fundraiser on June 27 returned to downtown Los Angeles to not only raise funds but also celebrate the museum's grand reopening. Under the theme of "Celebrate: Shelter," the gala exhibited a series of custom-designed "shelters" created by designers and architects. The shelters were then auctioned off, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the museum.

The auction’s two top-earning pieces included Hibrido by Carlos Luna James, and the Real Wood Armchair by Adam Friedman of Sitskie. Hibrido, a large-scale 3-D mapping installation, is projected onto a wall-mounted, handcrafted sculpture, and is inspired by the "the simplicity of the polygon shape and the complexity of the sum of its parts." Sitskie's armchair is an evolution of the furniture company's block chairs, made from reclaimed oak from the roof of an old structure.
