What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
For Thom Filicia’s inaugural collection of door hardware, the designer was influenced by the worlds of fashion, art, architecture and even automobiles to create four distinct series of knobs and levers that are jewelry for the home. The idea was to create pieces that coordinate (as opposed to match) and that can be used in a variety of ways throughout a home. “I’m inspired by the world around me—I wanted to develop a collection of elegant pieces that I believe fill a gap in the offerings currently available to designers and homeowners alike,” says Filicia.

How did the collaboration come about?
We first connected with Thom at High Point, and after some initial conversations we decided this was a perfect pairing. A little more than a year and many steps later, we have this gorgeous collection that we are so proud of. Designed to be interchangeable, each series consists of knob and lever styles that pair with a variety of backplates, and every piece is 100 percent made in the USA.

What piece are you most excited to unveil? 
The Carrera collection: It was inspired by Thom’s passion for the vintage car. The premium sculptural lever recalls the back detail on the classic Porsche 911 Carrera, while the complementary round knob captures the original wheel design.

How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
Accurate Lock & Hardware is known for creating the Rolls Royce of the mortise lock and providing custom solutions for a wide variety of openings.  From the White House to the National Diet Building in Tokyo, Accurate’s locks are on some of the most important doors in the world. Partnering with talented designers like Thom Filicia helps showcase our manufacturing capabilities in a collection of beautiful designs that are unique to the door hardware industry. 

How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
Thom Filicia for Accurate is sold as a complete set including Accurate mortise locks (or new tubular offering available upon request). Combining industry-leading technology with the beautiful trim line upgrades any opening. Accurate partnered with Jay Jeffers for their Access by Accurate line in 2019. This bespoke hardware line is available at 10 exclusive showroom retailers across the country. That partnership helped pave the way for the launch of the Thom Filicia for Accurate collection, which maintains the same American-made quality but has more variations and options throughout. 

Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
The entire collection is made from solid brass and machined in Stamford, Connecticut, right outside New York. Once the knob or lever is made, then it gets prepped for either a satin or polished finish. It is offered in 10 popular finishes, including Burnished Brass, Tarnished Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Polished Nickel, Tarnished Nickel, Antique Nickel and Matte Black. Aurora is unique in that it features an inlay inspired by Thom’s wallcovering collection. We used either laser etching or hand hammering to create this distinctive texture and, in some cases, actually inserted the wallpaper itself.

How do you envision designers using this collection?
We think the design industry will love the versatility of this collection because it is designed to mix instead of just match. The same knob can be used throughout a project but paired with different backplates or different finishes to make it feel really personal. The designs also touch upon a wide variety of styles, from modern to transitional, to appeal to different interior aesthetics.

Can the collection be customized? What kind of options are possible?
As we have been a leader in architectural hardware for more than 50 years and manufacture all our products here in the USA, we have the flexibility to customize relatively effortlessly. We can bring any vision to life and have the ability to work with designers to customize looks for their clients. The Thom Filicia for Accurate collection is no exception. Currently, it is available in four different designs in a varied selection of knobs and levers, each of which can be paired with a variety of escutcheons and roses to mix and match. The collection can also be paired with a wide array of innovative locks, making it versatile for narrow stile doors, entry doors, glass doors and more. In addition, we offer custom etching options that allow you to add any monogram, pattern or design to a hardware or metal plate in different finishes.
