What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
Defined Momentum is a distinct and versatile collection inspired by the earth’s natural forms and artistic patterning. Transitional yet elevated, each fabric and wallpaper design has been considered for its capacity to help create the perfect layered interior.
What was the starting point for this collection?
We wanted Defined Momentum to embrace that balance of modern art and natural beauty. The earth’s organic forms are where the inspiration started, because of their random, ornate and captivating shapes. We’ve mirrored the flow of nature with strong interpretations across a beautifully considered palette.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
Expressive artworks translate into luxurious wallpapers that ignite the senses, with textured papers taking center stage. Depicting contemporary artistic expression at its best, versatile wallpapers designed in our studio and produced in the United Kingdom reflect the organic progression of nature.
Fabrics designed and curated for this collection offer a sleek look with a mix of matte and shine for layering. It’s a fresh yet deeply luxurious perspective.
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
There are so many, but Molten in particular is a special design. An epingle velvet, Molten is named after its pattern, which echoes the form of lava as it pools out of the volcano. Gemstones inspired the color palette for this 100,000-rub velvet.
How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
The beauty of Defined Momentum is that while each design is completely new, it follows the signature familiarity of Harlequin’s portfolio. Thoughtfully designed and colored, each piece, whether fabric or wallpaper, is an opportunity to express individuality. Textures and tones can be coordinated for endless interior options.
How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
While the palette has a look that’s specific to the collection, it has been curated to layer across our entire portfolio. Earthy, grounded tones meet more jewel-like colors in the velvets and weaves, offering designs that work in harmony with all our other products.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout, and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
Monolith is a design across fabric and wallpaper that feels exceptional. Woven in 100 percent silk and hand-screen-printed to create overlay marking, it references the structural beauty of balanced rocks. This formation creates an unusual check pattern that gives definition and a sense of drama to the design. Large-scale and full of color, Monolith is truly expressive in both aesthetic and texture. “Drenching” this design across fabric and wallpaper makes a bold statement.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
We hope they’ll embrace the layering of these textures, mixing colors from across the palette to achieve schemes that are unique to their brief and offer visual and tactile excitement.
