Kirsty Froelich, director of design for The Tile Shop, discusses the company’s latest styles.
What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
We looked at our existing tile selection as a whole to see what items of value we could add based on current and upcoming design trends, customer feedback and exciting new ideas and prints from our designer partners.
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
All of them! Every tile has a unique style and story behind it. I love to see which tiles resonate most with our customers. They’ll send in photos of completed projects and upload them to the Customer Room Gallery on our website. It’s awesome to see what people do with the tiles—it’s the most exciting part for me.
How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
We are aligned with partners who have fresh ideas and are well known within the design community. I think The Tile Shop is elevated by these factors. For our in-house branded tiles, we look to see what patterns and colors are trending and how we can develop them into tiles.
How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
This is very important to us. We want to add options that are fresh but will play well with our existing collections. We take potential tile designs to the sales floor to see which other tiles they will work with if we add them. We also solicit feedback from our sales team to make sure it’s something they like and will feel confident adding to their designs.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
The shapes, patterns and colors we’ve added are all very fresh and trend-forward.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
We continue to develop tiles in all materials—natural stone, porcelain, ceramic, glass and metal—to provide a wide variety of options. We’ve added many new porcelain tiles this year because porcelain is very versatile and durable. It also offers a blank palette for patterns that customers can use on both walls and floors.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
We envision designers using these tiles in a wide variety of ways. We hope that they are able to find products that complement every element in the homes they design—from top to bottom. We style photo shoots to show our clients a vision from The Tile Shop, but I love that designers take the products and use them in ways unique to their personal aesthetic. It’s so fun to see!
