The Yale School of Architecture celebrates its centennial anniversary next year, and is marking the occasion with a new exhibition that investigates the relationship between teaching architecture and the spaces in which education unfolds.
The exhibition, “Pedagogy and Place: Celebrating 100 Years of Architecture Education at Yale,” was organized by Robert A.M. Stern, the J.M. Hoppin Professor of Architecture, with Jimmy Stamp, M.E.D. It will showcase alumni work, as well as historical documents that reveal the development of architecture education at Yale and the buildings that have been home to the school’s programs.
An additional exhibit, which relies on research from Stern’s spring seminar students, explores 30-plus architecture schools from around the world, to “further illuminate the evolution of architecture education and the relationship between pedagogy and place.” Schools include Sir John Soane’s House, the École des Beaux-Arts, The Bauhaus, Harvard University Graduate School of Design and The Cooper Union.
The exhibit will be on view at the Yale School of Architecture from December 3, 2015, through May 7, 2016. A publication of the same title will be released in April of next year, showing how the school has evolved over the last 100 years, as well as profiling the school’s buildings and the architects who taught and studied there.
