The essential guide to this week’s Fall High Point Market

With High Point Market right around the corner (October 18 – 24), designers are dusting off their walking shoes and tweaking their schedules to make the most of what promises to be another fruitful season.

Editor at Large has assembled a handy reference guide of events and happenings—both social and educational—to help you navigate this year's Fall Market.

Friday, October 18

Tobi Fairley’s Think Tank sponsored by CR Laine is a full-day of high-impact training and a chance for designers to turn their trip to High Point Market into an opportunity to transform their businesses.

Hampton and Kasler

From 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. the Hickory Chair showroom will host Alexa Hampton, Suzanne Kasler and Thomas O’Brien for a book signing.

Cresent Provence will host cocktails from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at 220 Elm in showroom 201.

WithIt hosts High Point Market President’s Reception from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Copeland Furniture in space 5200.

William Yeoward for Jonathan Charles’ launch party will take place from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Jonathan Charles Showroom in suite 125.

The Better Together Mix and Mingle presented by IHFRA and AIDP, hosted by 220 Elm takes place from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The Market kickoff party is from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Showplace Center Stage between Showplace and Transportation Terminal.

Saturday, October 19

Breakfast session—Duke University Center on Globalization, Governance & Competitiveness, will present the findings from their 2013 study of the Economic Impact of the High Point Market. 8:00 a.m. breakfast buffet and 8:30 a.m. presentation at the High Point Theatre.

Creating a Viable Business Model, Setting Goals, and Realizing Your Dreams in this Challenging and Ever-changing Business Environment featuring interior designer Tobi Fairley at the Market Square’s Antique & Design Center of High Point ground level lecture room from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Shannon Koszyk will unveil her accessories collection and offer her Southern hospitality from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at IHFC, M110 on Main Street, Street Level.

Dennis and Ellis

Lori Dennis, Kelli Ellis and Lisa Mende will moderate a panel titled Project Management for the Design Professional from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the Market Square’s Antique & Design Center of High Point on the Ground Level Lecture Room.

Greg Dunlop, ASID, Global Strategy Director of WGSN-Homebuildlife, will focus on key trends forecasted for the interiors industry during Fast Forward: A future-view to Interior Trends. The discussion takes place from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the IHFC - Green Wing, 11th Floor Ballroom B.

HGTV's Host Candice Olson will present Coordinating a Room from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Showplace, Showroom 4100.

Brouwer and Ferguson

Decor mentors Lisa Ferguson, Kati Curtis, Elaine Williamson, Jennifer Brouwer and Lisa Kahn will openly share proven yet fresh solutions for challenges that include selling, presenting, client management, getting published during the Elevate Seminar—Innovative Solutions to Interior Designer’s Top Challenges. The discussion takes place from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at 220 Elm, Eilersen showroom, suite 312.

Phillips Collection will host its annual networking mixer from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Phillips Collection Showroom, IHFC C202.

Rottet

The Bolier showroom will host an open house with Lauren Rottet from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Chaddock will host cocktails to celebrate the introduction of David Easton for Chaddock, 300 East Green Drive, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Attendees are also invited to view the new pieces by Larry Laslo for Chaddock. A presentation will take place at 6:00 p.m.

Meet the colorful tastemakers behind Black Crow Studios and The Gilded Stag in the CP Laine showroom at 6:00 p.m.

The market's schedule of entertainment will open with As We Stand, a soulful, high-energy dance collaboration offering a mix of current and classic pop, rock, R&B, soul, Motown, contemporary blues and dance. This eight-piece ensemble is led by Zac Harmon and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 20

Bellissimo

Wendy Bellissimo, founder of Wendy Bellissimo Media, will host “Baby Steps to a Better Brand,” part of the Withit Educational Breakfast series from 7:15 – 9:00 a.m. in the IHFC Green Wing, 11th Floor ballroom A.

Enjoy breakfast as you meet and greet with luxury kitchen designer Rebecca Reynolds and architectural interior designer Lori Gilder before sitting down to learn from them during Incorporating Repurposed and Vintage Into Kitchen Design… Create a Niche in Your Market and Increase Your Bottom Line. The discussion and breakfast takes place from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Market Square’s Antique & Design Center of High Pointground level lecture room.

Lexington Home Brands will host Destination Design where design professionals can preview a unique display of signature pieces from Lexington’s new indoor and outdoor living collections from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. in the Lexington Home Brands Design Studio, 116 East Commerce Street, first floor showroom.

Discover how to ‘excite, engage and sell’ with 3D Design during Deliver the Property Brothers Experience from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the Red Egg Showroom, 415 W. High Avenue.

Join Moore Councill to celebrate the debut of Gary Inman Home Couture, A furniture collection inspired by high fashion. Sip champagne and enjoy French cuisine while chatting with Gary Inman and Joseph Elko about their unique approach to furniture design and their storied inspirations. The event takes place from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 200 N. Hamilton Street, Moore Councill Showroom, Suite 202.

Dixon

Celebrate the newest introductions to the Barry Dixon Collection by Arteriors from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Enjoy Southern refreshments while chatting with Dixon about the inspiration behind his designs at IHFC, Showroom 320.

The first in the High Point Market’s Design View Point Series, From All Corners: Exploring Diversity in Design, is a conversation bringing together a group of today’s most prominent designers of color, to discuss creating personalized spaces as well as the presence and role of ethnic diversity in design tastes. The panel will be led by Aphrochic founders Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason. A book signing will follow. The discussion takes place at 12:00 p.m. in the High Point Theater.

Learn how thinking like a million dollar designer is the first step to becoming one. Join Katy A. Garrett as she discusses the topic at the ZAAR Design Center, 741 West Ward Ave from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. 

Roxy Ulmsten and Todd Bowles will discuss the latest trends in fabric design from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at IHFC, Green Wing, 11th floor, Ballroom B. A Q&A will follow. Reservations are required by email.

David Lindquist, of Whitehall Antiques, will be serving up a hard nosed and hard hitting look at what has happened over the past 10 years to antique and vintage home furnishings. The discussion will take place from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the Market Square’s Antique & Design Center of High Point ground level lecture room.

Corrigan

Meet the author Timothy Corrigan while getting a signed copy of his book, An Invitation to Chateau du Grand-Luce: Decorating a Great French Country House. The event takes place from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at IHFC, M110 on Main Street, Street Level.

Joe Ruggerio introduces the new indigo fabric collection for Sunbrella and new additions to the JOE Group for Miles Talbott in the Miles Talbott Furniture Showroom at 4:00 p.m.

A panel of industry thought leaders will discuss the evolving role of social media in the home decor and interior design space from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Showplace, Showroom 4100.

Scalamandre hosts cocktails to celebrate the launch of Scalamandre Maison by Ports 68—a new lighting, accents and décor collection. 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Port 68 showroom, IHFC 310.

Ambella Home will host a press reception from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in its showroom, Suite 110. Then, a conversation with Jena Hall about Rediscovering the Jazz Age will take place from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. Guests are invited to stay and celebrate the launch of the new collection “By George” until 7:00 p.m.

Espinet

Sandra Espinet celebrates her first book, The Well-Traveled Home, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Taracea Showroom, The Radio Building.

The Salon Collection by Bea Pila for Tomlinson will debut at 5:00 p.m. with food, drinks and live music.

Baker will host a private cocktail event debuting the new Jacques Garcia Collection from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Designer Adriana Hoyos will host the 25th American Furniture Hall of Fame Induction Banquet. Industry Fellows who will be recognized for their exceptional leadership, accomplishments and contributions to the furniture industry are Aminy I. Audi, John D. Bassett III, Milo Ray Baughman Jr., A. Leon Capel Jr., Hassell H. Franklin and Eugene Rosenberg. Inductees into the Hall of Fame also will be announced at the banquet.

To cap off the day, The Beach Boys will grace the stage with selections from their 50-year career, sponsored by Surya. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Monday, October 21

Gidding and Wilson

John Gidding, of HGTV fame, is the celebrity moderator for the 2013 High Point Market Authority Press Breakfast. He will lead a panel of designers including Robin Wilson, of Robin Wilson Home, who represents the home and wellness sector, Zan Monroe, a well-known business speaker who will bring the “stats and facts” from the realtor perspective, and High Point Market Authority Style Spotter, Michelle Wiebe of Studio M and a High Point Market Authority Fall 2013 Sponsored Blogger, Lori Dennis of Design Camp (a Style Spotter alumni) who will share their thoughts on the trends they have found at the Fall Market. There will be a breakfast buffet at 8:30 a.m. followed by the panel from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the High Point Theater.

Jeffrey Alan Marks will showcase the latest additions to his signature line for PALECEK. The event takes place from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the IHFC Design Center, Showroom 202.

John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon are the dynamic duo behind Brooklyn-based interior design firm Madcap Cottage. They will discuss “Demystifying Design” at the Market Square’s Antique & Design Center of High Point ground level lecture room from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

At 12:00 p.m. in the High Point Theatre, the next Design View Point discussion will focus on evidence-based residential design and studies that have been put on by the ASID. In this session, attendees will learn how each element of design impacts the psychological perceptions and comfort of a client, why intervewing a client enhances the design process. The discussion will be led by Sally Augustin and Barbara B. Miller.

French Heritage will serve a chef prepared lunch from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. while new collections are on display.

Langdon

Designer, author and makeover television personality Libby Langdon hosts a special lunch seminar sponsored by HC&G (Hamptons Cottages and Gardens) magazine about coastal design. The talk will take place from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. in the Culler Showroom, 310 S. Elm Street. RSVP via email.

Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill will meet with fans and members of the media to discuss her newest designs for the Kensington Collection by Loloi from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the IHFC, Showroom D230.

Aerin Lauder unveils her collection of AERIN lighting for Visual Comfort & Co. from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Commerce & Design, Suite 2A.

Three top designers will take the stage from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Tomlinson to give insight into what is inspiring designers and how that is being translated into tomorrow's needs. "Inspire Tomorrow" features Dixon, Pila, Michael Wolk and trend forecaster Ellen Gefen.

Eastern Accents will host a book signing of American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat by Filicia from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Market Square showroom, Suite G-1000.

Mary Ella Gabler, founder of 40-year-old luxury home textiles brand Peacock Alley, and author of Uncommon Thread, will host a book signing and meet and greet in the Codarus Showroom, IHFC, Suite H223 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Pheasant and Marks

Join Rizzoli for a group book singing event featuring some of the biggest names in the interiors business. Co-sponsored by Market Square & Suites the Trendsetter Book Event will offer for sale the latest titles from top designers, who will also be on hand to sign the books. Authors include Timothy Corrigan, Annette Joseph, Suzanne Kasler, Jeffrey Allan Marks, Joan Osofsky, and Thomas Pheasant. The signing takes place from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Market Sqaure Courtyard.

Lamps Plus will unveil new product from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Robert Abbey, Inc. Showroom, IHFC W224.

Aerin Lauder and E.J. Victor will celebrate the new additions to the AERIN furniture collection in the showroom (116 South Lindsay Street) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. This is a private event, by invitation only.

The WithIt Competitive Intelligence and Trends Panel will take place from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Design9 Inc., 220 Elm (Suite 311).

The 18th annual Pinnacle Awards will honor and recognize creative, relevant and original designs in home furnishings. Winners will be announced at the Awards banquet from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the IHFC Green Wing, 11th floor Ballroom. Advance Tickets are $105; $115 at the door.

Tuesday, October 22

Wiebe

High Point Market Authority Style Spotters share their favorite looks and on-trend products found at the High Point Market during a complimentary breakfast event. Moderated by the winner of Spring Market, Fall Market Style Spotter Michelle Wiebe, panelists include fellow Style Spotters Lisa Ferguson, Stacy Naquin and Traci Zeller. The discussion takes place from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the IHFC Green Wing, 11th floor ballroom A. Reservations are required by email.

The final discussion in the Design View Point series will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the High Point Theater. “Let the Color Tell the Story – Trends to Watch for 2014” will feature Steve Shorthouse, PPG’s national color and design consultant, who will share the five key color stories that will provide a unique inspiration to designers.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council’s 5th annual study results show that consumers are more and more aware of environmental issues, but they need to be educated about their choices in home furnishings. Learn how leading retailers are getting the message out, and about how their business is effected. Panelists include: Mitchell Gold of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Steve Freeman of Room & Board, Peggy Burns of Circle Furniture and Bob George of Impact Consulting. The discussion and lunch will take place from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. in the IHFC Green Wing, 11th floor ballroom B.

Boles

The Peak of Chic blogger and author, Jennifer Boles, will premier her new book: In With The Old, Classic Décor From A to Z published by Potter Style/Random House. Meet Boles and have a copy of the book signed from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at IHFC, M110 on Main Street, Street Level.

Drawing influences from fashion, science, nature, pop culture and global traditions, Sherwin-Williams introduces Colormix 2014, which captures colors that inspire creativity and design in today's world. The four-palette collection provides design professionals with a guide to help them define the moods they want to create and select colors for projects. The discussion is presented by Carolyn Noble and Alicia Chavarria and will take place from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Showplace, Surya Rugs Showroom, Suite 4100.

Wednesday, October 23

WithIt will host its annual Student Mentoring Day from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the  Century Courtyard Registration Lobby.

Daily Events

Breakfast with the Keno brothers from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. in Theodore Alexander.

The M|T company will serve cocktails and hor d’oeuvres each day at 4:00 p.m. in the showroom (1690 English Road) while the new collections will be on display.

The unveiling of La-Z-Boy’s most significant collection in 10 years: URBAN Attitudes will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Furniture Plaza Building (210 South Main Street – 1st Floor).

Williams

Century Furniture will show Bunny Williams’ outdoor collection including a mixture of occasional, dining and accent furniture for outdoor spaces in a range of mediums from teak with faux zinc accents to woven upholstered pieces.

Swing to your favorite music from the 30’s, 40’s 50’s, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s and enjoy classic cocktails and hor d’oeuvres as you check out vintage cars and home furnishings from past to present. Road Trippin'—Celebrate Classic Designs Through the Decades with the Antique & Design Center and Historic Market Square will take place daily from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

HTL Furniture will officially introduce Muse, a new contemporary brand for the total living room.

For the first time in 30 years, MacKenzie-Childs, will be making a debut at High Point Market where they will introduce brand new spring 2014 offerings in IH200.

Global Views and Studio A, a Global Views company, have recently expanded both High Point showrooms in order to accommodate new and rapidly developing lines. The newly expanded spaces will debut during Market.

The new Live Love Laugh collection for Caracole Light debuts at Market. The line has been designed by Portugal-based designer Ana Cordeiro. (IHFC building, space C-500).

Smith

Michael S. Smith will show a preview of his new collection of mirrors for Mirror Image Home (Market Square, G-7010) each day throughout Market.

Designer Barclay Butera will be introducing a plethora of new collections during Market. A collection of ceramic lamps for Bradburn Lighting Gallery will be on display at IHFC, G270 Green Wing; three new bedding collections will be available in the Eastern Accents showroom at Market Sqaure, G-1000; a rug collection for Nourison will be shown in the Interhall entrance IH-101; and finally a collection of accessories will debut in the Zodax showroom, IH-600.

The HGTV Home Designer Program is positioned to welcome interior designers to the brand, inspire their creative spirit and introduce them to the portfolio of tools that HGTV Home Furniture Collection offers to help them expand their business opportunities. Designers are invited to the company’s showroom, IHFC C1200, to browse the array of signature and core products and to learn more.
