Newly installed ASID president Robin Baron ushers in a new board of directors for the organization, including Glenn Gissler, President-Elect; Jon Pesce, Financial Director; Dionne Gadsden, Professional Development Director; Jennifer Quail, Communications Director; Donovan Malloy, Membership Director; Kelsey Ranson, Director at Large; Bonnie Hoeker, Student Representative; and Alex Sobolewski, Emerging Professionals Chair.

At ASID’s annual meeting, held October 1 at the GroheLive! Center in New York, Baron introduced new initiatives for the organization. She shares some highlights with EAL:

What are some of the upcoming initiatives and programs for ASID?
I am thrilled to be the new ASID NY Metro Chapter president! I am looking forward to energizing the chapter and infusing it with passion, excitement and relevancy. One of our major focuses is our future; students and emerging professionals. We have created significant programs to help them deepen their experience in our field. Working with our new President-Elect, Glenn Gissler, we have developed an “Emerging Designer Series” which gives students and emerging professionals an intimate look behind the scenes and access to some of our industry’s leaders. We are also partnering with prestigious media sponsors and industry partners to create contests specifically to engage students and emerging professionals.

For our more seasoned professionals, we also have new content and opportunities. I am looking forward to announcing, over the next few months, new partnerships and media relationships that offer and exciting opportunities for our members. I am also proud to tell you that, for the first time, we are going to have an awards gala this Spring 2016. I have put together an impressive gala committee and we are looking forward to creating our first big event, highlighting the great work within our design community.

What are some of the assets and experiences that the new board members bring to the table?
I am working with a fantastic board this year! We all agree that ASID NY Metro Chapter needs to catapult its social media presence into the 21st Century and so we’re upgrading our social media involvement in the best possible way, featuring compelling, relevant content that will be informative, educational and engaging! ASID NY Metro has a lot to be proud of: a rich history of strength and continued growth. We will be highlighting ASID’s past, present and future through our social channels. If you’re not already following us on social media, start now! Be sure to follow, like, and share! (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and use the hashtag #asidnymetro.)

Could you share some of the insights and takeaways?
As interior designers, we have a passion for the work we do and that is reflected in our commitment to our work. It is more than a business for most of us… I know it is for me. At ASID NY Metro Chapter, we have built a strong and supportive community that I am proud to be a part of. I like to say that “We always bring who we are to everything we do” and I intend to bring all of who I am to my presidency this year. So stay tuned and keep your eyes and ears open for all of the new events and opportunities that we will be announcing!
