The very first Design Auction held at the Venduehuis in the Hague is set for Wednesday, October 10. Several unique seating objects, created by renowned Dutch designers, were chosen for the auction and will be sold as “chairs for charity.”

Upon the invitation of Tim Erpenbeek de Wolff, managing director of the Venduehuis, 14 designers chose a chair from the collection, altered it at their discretion and selected a charity to which the auction proceeds of their chair will go.

The designers that are participating in this project include: Ed Annink, Maarten Baas, Sander Bokkinga, Jan Des Bouvrie, Kiki Van Eijk, Ineke Hans, Richard Hutten, Dirk Vander Kooij, Ted Noten, Alexander Pelikan, Rutger De Regt, Tejo Remy, Tiddo De Ruiter and Onno Schelling.

The charities that will benefit from this auction include: KWF Kankerbestrijding, Amnesty, Wakker Dier, KIKA, Bomenstichting, Sofa Fonds, Warchild, Stitching Vrolikheid, Iceers, Stitching MS, Duchenne Parent Project and Natuurmonumenten.

Fourteen of these fabulous chairs will be auctioned off along with an additional Richard Hutten design and pieces that were donated to the auction by private individuals.

Richard Hutten was instructed to make 152 pieces of his NgispeN Centraal Museum chairs in royal blue, for the Dutch Royal Wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima. After the wedding, Hutten kept four chairs, specifically the ones used by Queen Beatrix, Prince Claus, Prince Constantijn, and Princess Laurentien. Now, ten years later, these chairs are being auctioned off.

Some of the private pieces in the auction include: the PK22 chairs by famous Danish designer Poul Kjærholm, barber’s chairs by Piet Hein Eek, and an original prototype of Marcel Wanders’s Knotted Chair.
