House Beautiful Style Secrets: What Every Room Needs By Sophie Donelson
What does every room need? The magazine's editor in chief Sophie Donelson ventures to convey just that in her book, debuting this September. Her insights are organized in response to that question. Among the must-haves are a splash of color (chapter 1), a "grand gesture," like an oversized vase or enormous Chippendale mirror, (chapter 3) and "glitter and gleam" (chapter 4).

But the book is just as much about what Donelson calls, in her foreword, "ideas to try, not just things to buy," with a focus that's more on creating an atmosphere than making specific purchases. (Abrams)
