Known for his subversive takes on classics, fashion designer Steven Alan has partnered with West Elm to translate his vision to the home. More than a year in the making, Steve Alan Stripes is the first collaboration of its kind for both the designer and the home furnishings brand. The collection includes bedding, vases, rugs and furniture.

“Steven is the first fashion designer we have worked with on a collaboration of this size,” said Abigail Jacobs, VP of brand marketing West Elm. “He has such a strong point of view around pattern, color, the way things feel and fit. It was exciting to re-envision that perspective in home.”

West Elm introduced Alan to artisans in India, Nicaragua and Haiti, where he developed products that speak to each country’s cultural heritage.

Steven Alan and West Elm president Jim Brett arrive in India ready to make their vision for a handcrafted textiles collaboration come to life.

“Our shared commitment to developing handcrafted products made this a natural collaboration opportunity,” said Alan. “West Elm introduced me to potters in Nicaragua, weavers in India and paper-mache experts in Haiti. These artisans were able to utilize their expertise to handcraft each of my original designs. The result is a collection that celebrates centuries-old craft for today’s home.”

“Collaborations make us better and allow us to introduce our customers to a new point of view, process, material or design aesthetic,” added Jacobs. “We look for artists and makers who inspire us, broaden our mix and, of course, are fun to work with. We look for artists and makers who are doing something new or unique, that we haven't done before. It's even better, as it is with Steven Alan, if they share our values around crafting product by hand and supporting the artisan businesses we work with.”

The collection is available in stores now and items are priced between $24 – $849.
