Known for his knowledge of spatial design, architect, editor, and curator Nicola Goretti will serve as the Jury Captain for the Core77 2012 Design Awards in the Interiors & Exhibitions category. He joins 19 other design luminaries from 8 different countries serving as Jury Captains.

The Awards feature 17 categories with separate entry fields for professionals and students. The Interiors & Exhibitions category calls for entries of spatial design as it relates to physical interiors, exhibitions, or installations, either permanent or temporary, and to any context. Examples include public installations, restaurant and hospitality interiors, office and medical interiors, set designs, retail displays, and exhibition booths, among many others. The deadline for entries is April 10, 2012.

Goretti is the Founder, Director, and Architect of Grupo AG – a firm that focuses on national projects in design, architecture, and sustainability. He is also a curator and producer of exhibitions on Brazilian and Latin American design as well as the editor of Maquete – a magazine focused on Brazilian culture and identity. In the upcoming weeks he will assemble his own team of local experts to judge the submissions in the Interiors & Exhibitions category. Giving the judges an opportunity to share their insights “in person,” the results will be broadcast live via online video from Brazil at the beginning of July.

Goretti follows in the footsteps of last year’s jury team in Tokyo led by Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein, of Klein Dytham Architecture. After reviewing all of the entries in the Interiors/Exhibitions category, they chose the Exhale Pavilion – a temporary installation and outdoor public art venue designed by Phu Hoang Office and Rachely Rotem Studio for Art Basel Miami Beach – as the overall winner in 2011. With seven miles of hanging phosphorescent rope that literally shifted with the wind, it won the judges over with its natural forms, light touch and interactive and responsive nature. Other notable entries came from the Rockwell Group and the Lab, Local Projects LLC, and Herman Miller Healthcare and the Continuum Design Team.
